Anyone got any technical capability in terms of google drive etc?! If you set up a folder and share it, is it only that folder that's shared? Do we need to have a closed or private group on here or something too?

@superdelphinus you can share a folder so that anyone with a hyperlink can access it. I guess we will need to pass the emails around or something. Discord maybe.

    More the merrier!

We're still working out what to play and how to share it :)

A guitarist mate taught me a great new shape and style to play 12 bar blues last night on the bass. I'll try and nail it today while it's fresh in my memory.

The guy is so good. He's forgotten what I'll ever know on the bass and he's a guitarist!

Hard to jam with sometimes because you just stop and listen to him :)

Now I think I know what 12 bar blues is but eh... Can you say what it is so I know you know?

There are a few variations, but let's say you're doing a blues in E, this is the most common structure:

    4 bars on the 1 chord (E)
    2 bars on the 4 chord (A)
2 bars on the 1 chord
    1 bar on the 5 chord (B)
1 bar on the 4 chord
1 bar on the 1 chord
1 bar on the 5 chord
    and around again.

The last 2 bars can vary quite a lot and that's where you get all the turnarounds.

Yeah we'd need to decide if we're doing 8 bar or the proper 12 and also need to decide on the turnaround

I don't mind starting it off in the bass and you can all comment and come up with amendments till we're happy

Huh. So that's G sharp (m), C sharp (m) and D sharp (m). Here's me doing a 12 bar blues. Never done one before, yet it sounds very familiar.

Christ, shit only takes 20 years to sink into my stupid fucking head.

You on guitar doing that or bass? Assume you're starting on the 3rd fret of the E string or you starting higher up?

I'd have to move up a bit you see as this shape I'm playing needs more space lower than the G sharp

4th fret on the E innit. Then my other two roots are just 4th and 6th on the A.

    That's right isn't it for a G sharp Minor?

I wouldn't be surprised if it's very much not it mind you.

Yeah that's right. That's a minor blues though if you're doing minor chords, which is quite a different sound. Often played more slowly and moodily I think.

    G#. You awkward bastard.

Right ok. Think I've got it.

So shall I record it and send it over then?

Er, what file format ? Wav? Who's arranging it all?

Did someone say they could put it all in logic? In which case, I only have a pc so I'd need to know what format. I was thinking if recording it directly into Ableton but someone let me know what format you want it in

Also, would everyone mind terribly if I did it in A instead? Just for easiness to start with?

If logic is like Reaper then Wavs are fine are they not? Quite hefty file size wise though.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. Plus if I record direct it's always too bloody clean.

I've got a headache today so someone just tell me what format they want as I can't deal with hassle :)

But I have a nice little bass line going

    Something like this?

    https://photos.app.goo.gl/Pj4Vvj6uwuK4z1sN9

This is on acoustic so I'll tidy it up a bit and play it on electric. It's just nice to jam outside for a bit while it's hot

As it's just one or two tracks I would think Wav.
