Back in mid 2009 I was miffed at how awkward it was to use EG on my shiny iPhone 3. I made myself an app to make reading reviews and browsing the forum on the loo easier. It worked well and I decided to send EG a few images to see if they'd allow me to publish it on the appStore for others to use. On the loo. I was surprised when they said "Sure". They worked with me and together we released several iterations of the app and you guys have used it over 3 million times to date. 3 million times! The new EG site is no longer a struggle to use on a mobile device. It's great. So we're sun setting the iOS app as of today. This means the app will no longer be available in the appStore or supported by EG or myself. You can still use it of course. It will most lightly work just fine for quite some time but I'll no longer be providing support if it all goes belly up. It's been a pleasure working on the app. EG have been magnificent to work with and if they hadn't taken a chance on me back in 2009 then I wouldn't be now doing this for a living. Thanks EG and thanks to you all for using, breaking, testing, moaning, reviewing etc the app over the years. See you at the EXPO! Here's the first images I sent to EG followed by the latest version of the app: ! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() P.s. Making this a sticky for a little so folk who want to continue using the app notice and are reminded to backup their apps. |

Registered 17 years agoInevitable as the new site now works well. But for a while, that app was invaluable. Many thanks to all involved, especially Vroom for all his hard work, constant support and feedback in the app thread, it was greatly appreciated. -

Cheers Shane, for my part it was a load of fun working on this with you. You did a great job, and you were especially understanding of my nitpicky feedback. Thanks very much for your hard work. Perhaps work together on something else some time. /salute -

Enjoyed using it but like you say, the mobile site is pretty decent now. -

Registered 15 years agoThis is very sad news, and a backwards step in my opinion. EG, can't you put someone else on to manage the upkeep of the app? -
The ability to read articles offline was an absolute godsend in my last job, and the one thing the mobile site can't properly replicate. RIP EG app! -

Registered 12 years agoAh that's sad. Despite its issues it's still miles better than the mobile site.
I'm guessing the fact that the ads are still for pre-ordering MW3 means it doesn't pay its way. -

Cheers for the App Vroom, it was a good one. Got more use out of it than any other App, well worth the pitiful tiny amount it cost. Sad to see it go. At least I still have Super Twario

I still use it every day. Even on ipad. It's so much quicker than using safari. I also use it to cache articles to read at work on my in all homesty I think version 1 was a better app. But anyway. Well done on a creation that I have used a lot and I think EG are missing a trick letting it die. -

Registered 15 years agoHow fitting that it has borked my post now that it is no longer supported!
Version one was actually much better than the second imo. I use it still even on the ipad as it is much better than using the site via Safari. I also cache articles to read at qork on my ipod. I think EG are missing a trick letting it die frankly.
