The Anchoress: Confessions of a romance novelist

Loved her voice, having first heard and seen her on Simple MInds recent tours, so once she released an album I was going to buy. Had it on Prime for a while now and still love her voice and songs.

On the subject of the mighty Scots, new album next month :)

@jimnastics what an album that was (is)! You've just rekindled very fond memories of seeing them play Portsmouth Pyramids in... 1998 i think. 20 years! I'm digging the CD out when I get home.

Awesome!! I was also lucky enough to see them back in the day, in a sweaty little tent at the Brighton Essential Music Festival 1997. Such a great time in my life, the music brings back so many memories :)

I wonder if I imagined this as I can't find reference, but did Terrorvision do a mash up with some other band TOTP, thinking Alice What's the Matter but can't find a reference to it.
Anyway, if it was real or not, I remember it being ace.

On a Joni Mitchell binge today.

Had always loved the album Blue, but didn't know too much of her other stuff.

Crikey she went off in some funny directions. (15 minute improvised piece about a drynken night at a indigenous canadian bar on a lake at the edge of the arctic... with full orchestra... OK Joni...!)

She gets quite endearingly pervy too. Some of the lyrics are quite personal... 😜

I Can Hear The Heart Beat As One - Yo La Tengo

How did I miss this back in 97?

Somehow only heard this album for the first time yesterday.

It's so far up my street it has parked in my garage, laid it's hat on my hatstand, and is right now kipping on my sofa wearing my socks.

Fucking ace. Fourth track makes me feel like I am coming up on pills. Which is nice. 😜

Been kind of getting into Jamie Lenman's solo stuff recently. I was a big fan of that whole Hundred Reasons, Hell is for Heroes, Biffy Clyro, Reuben, Million Dead etc wave of bands in the early 00s so a lot of goodwill toward them still even if I'm not really into what a lot of them have done since.

First Lenman album didn't do it for me at all but giving the newer (last year?) one a chance I definitely dig some of the songs a lot more than last time. Although I am on fence slightly as to whether I really like it or nostalgia is helping a lot. It is also eclectic to the point of basically every song sounding like it could be from a different album to the next.

tldr let's stop hanging out let's stop having fun

I just listened to Rio by Duran Duran as the title track popped into my head the other day, I really enjoyed it and canít help but be impressed at how fantastic a bass player John Taylor is.

@simpleexplodingmaybe I love that era too, really enjoyed the new Jamie Lenman album. Check out the new Arcane Roots album if you're into that sort of stuff.

Can't stop listening to the new A Perfect Circle songs, I always liked them even though I could never get into Tool.

@Armoured_Bear Yeah the entire Rio album has a fantastic rhythm section, all the more impressive when you consider that the two Taylors were all of 21 when they recorded if.

Haven't listened to any post-rock in ages. Forgot how loud Envy are. Really pleased i've caught them live a couple of times before the old vocalist left the band.

Bruno Mars. The '90s sounding song, I think it's called "finessing", is simply sublime. The funny thing is that Bruno Mars sounds even better live, which is almost unheard of in pop music (looking at you Rihanna).

Bruno Mars Superbowl half-time show is one of the top two, probably even number one, they've had in the last ten years.

Listening to a band called Weedpecker today.

Truly awful name (in their defence, I think they might be Polish) but the band are pretty cool.

They seem to have a formula: bland dreamy psychedelia with floaty tuneless vocals morphs into twiddly guitar noodling, then a squawl of feedback, and we are into full on Iron-Maiden-go-stoner twin guitar riffing.

    Lovely stuff.

I've found myself listening to a lot of the Trance spotify playlist while cycling through horrible weather. It does the job pretty well. As a result I'm going to a Trance night Easter Weekend and I'm going to reach for those lasers.
