    hush! the great man speaks!

and Gally will be 100% CGI.
the reports from inside lightstorm say its going to look fantastic. so i would start looking at the closest IMAX theatre to you to plan for the movie event of 2006.

    he's back!

Oh this sounds good and i'm sure cameron will do a good job. I loved the anime version, the art direction was a breath of fresh air in the otherwise mediocre Manga Video selection. Was it a tv show or what? finished a bit abruptly for my liking, could've done with more.

Battle Angel Alita is fantastic. I've got most of the graphic novels, just missing the last one I think. I may have to dig them out later. also might have to post on cartoon shag list, but then as she is a robot, maybe not.

there was only one episode, or one in 2 parts depending on your territory.

the manga is one of the best ever, clean art stryle and storytelling and! minus the Shirow preachy crud.

JC will work wonders with the source material i am sure, but im not biased :p

I'm just thrilled to hear the man is making another feature film. I was begining to fear he'd quit.

well, he has never really quit, he has been making docs and he has produced some movies, and has several in production at the moment.

the return to the director's chair is most welcome.

Looking forward to this now. I hope it turns out better than Appleseed - the characters in that ended up being a little lifeless I thought because their animation was so obviously mo-capped

    /is worried

    This is of course IMO

    Terminator - Unbelievable
    Aliens - Incredible
Abyss - Good but flawed (still loved)
T2 - Good, but a bit cheesy and not as tense or exciting as the first
True Lies - Bit shit really
Titannic - There are few things I hate more

Now, this looks like a decline to me. I hope this is a 'return to form', but I don't like the trend.

If you like good CG (ignoring the characters), take a look at the Appleseed 2004 movie...

Looking forward to Alita. But I have to agree with kalel that his last really good film was Aliens.

    It really is happening.

Cameron to produce. Rodriguez to direct.

Well that came out of nowhere. I'm actually kind of surprised that there is a thread for this, I could have sworn the movie was announced before this forum even existed.

Just to give you an idea of how long this has been in pre-production, in the time since the first announcement the original manga series came back from a 5-year hiatus with a branching storyline that was just completed last year and spans 19 volumes. I'm still somewhat excited to see how the movie turns out, but maybe not quite as much as I was 15 years ago.

@itamae The movie was announced just about when I was first reading the manga.

That's a fucking long time ago.

See, I remember that the Battle Angel Alita OVA from years ago was one of the very few anime things I didn't hate. I actually thought it was quite good, in fact.

Now, this looks like it's following the beats of the OVA pretty closely, which I like; but man, those uncanny valley eyes are really fucking distracting.

I'd be very surprised if this film is going to be a hit. I thought the first trailer was better but now they're starting to show a lot more from it...eeek!

I have absolutely no idea what that is. Looks a bit turd though.

I remember looking forward to this...15 years ago when Cameron was attached to direct. Might have looked cutting edge then but now it looks kinda shit. Can see it going the way of Valerian.

Action sequences looks a bit tired, but I didn't find CGI itself very jarring.

Why have they given the girl a rubbish cgi PlayStation face then kept everyone else in normal human proportions?

Films just been screened for press at a New Zealand press junket.

Early reactions seem overwhelmingly positive. But they always are. I really hope they get this right.

They seem to have toned down her “PlayStation” eyes a bit on the last trailer I saw a month or so ago. Watching with curious interest.

I was really excited to see Mortal Engines, until I wasn't.

That said, BAA so has me excited. I might do a double bill on Blu-ray.

Interesting how the latest trailer is more of a young-girl rite of passage story - they trailed it during Bumblebee (a girl&her pony story), alongside a bunch of other girl-power films.

Lol, may have a point there. They dress all this shit up with androids and giant mechs and I get all confused. In reality it’s girl and a pony and first love shite.

Next we will have female jedis...................

    Oh wait,

That’s it, if the women burned their bras and shit I’m going to publically burn my Cineworld pass, who’s in??
