A friend of mine is in a pretty bad situation regarding a phone upgrade. She lives in London but spent the last 10 days in France. While there she used the T-mobile website to upgrade and order the new HTC One S. She arrived today and the phone wasn't there and T-mobile tells her it was delivered at her old address. At said address they deny having received anything and as far as T-mobile is concerned it was delivered to the address on file so they don't care. Question is, since phones are sent with recorded delivery and someone signed for it while she was abroad, isn't T-mobile or Royal Mail somewhat responsible for that phone's disappearance? Or am I just high? |

Yeah, just get the signature details off whoever has them (presumably both, and she should have a tracker number to look it up anyway), that should at least give some indication as to where it is. -
Anyone can sign for it though, assuming it's "Recorded Signed For". -

As it's a mobile phone it was probably RMSD so not everyone would be allowed to sign for it.

T-Mobile's site say they use UK Mail? But yeah, get all the information and proof you can. -

Looks like they use UK Mail indeed. All the same though as someone signed for it. Somehow she might be lucky she was abroad as she can prove it wasn't her.

Doesn't mean they're not liable does it? I know posties don't care, I get all my Shopto games through the letter box even though they're sent recorded.

I never said they weren't liable, I said that anyone can sign for it because they don't check the ID.
You might have to prove that the person wasn't you (her) which is unlikely to be easy. Don't expect to file a claim and get a cheque within a week. -

Should be pretty easy to prove it, given she wasn't in the country at the time. But yeah, unless something happens like being able to specifically pinpoint it on a known person, you're going to be waiting a while.

Registered 16 years agoJust to update, out of nowhere she received a phone call from the person who signed for it and will pick it up tomorrow.
Cheers for the answers, could be useful in the future. -

Are they meant to check ID?
