\o/ Woot! \o/ I managed to fail the Khallenge in the best way possible. I just landed my first real full time pro job since I left Uni in the Summer (as mentioned in a couple of long threads at the time). ICT Technicial at Cherwell school in Oxford. After 4 long months I can move out of my parents spare room and find a place of my own again (you know when you actually write it down it sounds even worse). If only I wasn't going to have to move to or around Oxford I'd be laughing. But all silver lining have a cloud and unfortunately it looks like I'll be spending all the money I don't give directly to the tax man on rent. Time to stock up on the supernoodles and give up real food for a while. Guess this post has very little real point (/awaits the hand of God and delete button) but except to say Woot to me and despite now having a regular income I'll be even poorer on Saturday that I thought I was (stupid fricking 1 month deposts, where and I meant to find that kind of money). |

Looks like it could end up being £500/month rent on a £700/month salary (after tax). I have this horrible feeling I'm going to have to get a weekend job just to make ends meet.
/starts saving
/stops drinking to classical Oxford extent.

Bah, just look at all the people that are now having to bow down before the nGage. All these tech journos who savaged it are having to say in new articles how well it has actually turned out. Good second wave of games my ass, they're just bowing to public pressure.

Registered 20 years agoShiv, I really think you need to share a place to reduce your outgoings, you'll just get pissed off if you end up working all the time and still not have much money left over. -

What is that £500 getting you? Surely you could flat share for far less? Thats a pretty lousy salary by the way.... -

Registered 20 years agoLooks like that might be what I end up doing. Got to go round some local housing agents as so far it has all been done via the net and national search engines.
Although Oxford owns all their student accomodation there must be the kids from Brookes who have to find their own place to live so Headington might have something to offer. Also I've now seen some 'may contain structural flaws' accomodation for as low as £350 which soulds a lot better for a start before I get to know the area better and scout out some good places).
>Thats a pretty lousy salary by the way....
£15k/year pro rata but it is a term time only job (6 week holiday in the Summer \o/) and as an entry level job it isn't unreasonable (Oxford county council has never been overflowing with cash to play employees)

Registered 18 years agoI've just noticed this thread now... congratulations Shiv, I'm dead chuffed for you
I've no idea about Oxford, but £500 a month for a flatshare isn't unreasonable in London, but you can get a room in a flatshare for a lot cheaper than that depending on what part of the city it is.
Also - you have 6 weeks off in the summer? you lucky, lucky bugger! I thought I was good getting 25 days holidays.

Excellent one Shivster. Yet another EGard ends up supporting the IT-clueless of Oxford. It's a wonderful city to live in and I'd happily move back there given the opportunity.
