You lot buying any new hardware in the sales? I've been saving for a nice big upgrade (amp, projector, blu-ray player) \o/

    I just bought a new Pioneer SC-LX75 \o/
Nice! Where'd you buy yours from? Good choice, been following the owners thread on AVForums, they're good amps. What speakers will they drive? I'm getting the SC-LX85 tomorrow :p

Just grabbed a Denon RCD N7, 400 quid with speakers in Bangkok, which seemed a bargain given it's imported electronics yet I ended paying what you'd pay for the base unit without speakers in the UK.

Will end up as a bedroom stereo when I get my proper stuff shipped over, but been very impressed... especially after finding out there's an android app that makes searching through my music a lot less painful.

After 3 months without my main stereo having access to something vaguely audiophile is a relief.

Good timing for this thread to be bumped.. Just took delivery of a Samsung UE55D7000

Barely had time to watch it after setting it up but other than it being BIG (gone from a 42" Panny Plasma) I'm impressed so far :)

That's what sold me on it (the 3D and Smart hub are superfluous IMO) takes up so much less space, that's why I took the plunge on the 55". Its a bit "off centre" at the mo (as waiting for a mate to help me wall mount it this week) will try and post some pics once its up..

3D on LED is a bit of a fail anyways but i do love the super thin bezel!

I do hope 3D dies a horrible death (again) so wont be purchasing any content that would line its coffers..

Depends how big ya rooms is, I think huge TVs in small rooms* look shit personally.

del, similar situation here with a 42" Panny. Is that new Samsung a similar external width? What with the slim bezel etc..

From memory (not the most reliable) its about 4 to 6" wider.. I can check properly for you when I'm home.. They do a paper measuring tape thing in Samsung retailers that shows you how big the TV would be (thats what I used)

No biggy, I was just being lazy! I'll look up the measurements.
  • Deleted user 4 January 2012 10:55:26
Yes they do, although as mrpon says, the frames are much smaller these days so will probably look less ridiculous.

Well my cumulative spend in 'AV' equipment this christmas was £15 on 24 IXOS banana plugs to make my setup look pretty and add convenience. :(

I feel i need to buy something big this year to compensate.

    /eyes up new Pioneer receiver
    /last of the paupers

Finally got my cinema room up to working order. Took ages but I love it :) I'm going back to it today to bi-amp some speakers and tidy it all up but it's all up and running. I haven't had the time to learn the nuances of the amp but, wow, it sounds amazing \o/

    In the pic you see:
    Pioneer SC-LX85 amp
    Marantz UD7006 blu-ray
    Pioneer AT5000 projector

You don't see the lovely Monitor Audio Silver speakers :)

I must say 3D's a gimmick, wouldn't bother with it but I haven't made an effort to calibrate it though.

    This is my 2012 Setup.
    Sony 40" 3D LED TV
    Ps3 500GB
Sony 2.1 amp (can't see it its behind the wooden bit)
Cambridge Audio S80 Sub + CA S20 speakers
7.1 surround sound wireless headphones (connected direct to the ps3 via optical)

Everything is new this yr apart from the ps3 and I'm quite pleased with it all. I'm sending the TV back beacuse the image has slight vertical banding on very low contrast scenes (I've researched this and its a pannel problem apparently), I'm getting the same set again though beacuse apart from this the picture is spot on.
