DayZ This thing looks insane. IŽve spent most of my morning reading stories about this mod. It uses a 225 sq km map, the servers can take somewhere between 50 to a 100 players right now (it is still in Alpha) and there could be as many as 1500 zombies on the server. There is an hunger/thirst system, weapons and ammo are scarce so you have to always be on the lookout for buildings to raid and you need to be quiet so you donŽt attract zombies. Speaking of zombies, they are fast and they will chase for kms. But they are not the only enemies you have to look out for because every encounter with an human player will be tense, not everyone will be friendly and most will not think twice about killing you to get your stuff and once youŽre dead, youŽre dead. You will have to re-enter the server and get a different character. Here are a few videos showing it off : Edited by LFMartins at 14:29:27 07-05-2012 |

Been following the thread about this over on SomethingAwful. It sounds great but is in it's infancy at the moment and a bunch of stuff doesn't really work right.
Here's hoping it takes off because it could finally be the proper zombie experience (besides Project Zomboid). -

Registered 16 years agoYes, thereŽs still a lot of work to be done but it already seems to be an unique experience. IŽve seen the first 3 videos of The Days Ahead and it was more entertaining and full with the drama and the second season of Walking Dead. IŽll probably going to give it a go tonight. -

Registered 17 years agoYeah been watching the series of the second video in the OP. Game looks and sounds amazing.
From what I hear the modders are planning on making it a proper full game. The only downer is the (I guess necessary) MMO nature. It would be the game of forever if it was a proper SP game. Or something like Demons/Dark souls structure with a mixture of MMO and SP elements.

This bunch of naughty bandits are rather well organised and equipped.

This is brilliant, loving the videos. Only thing stopping me at the moment is not owning Operation Arrowhead :/ -
@LFMartins Thanks for writing off most of my day watching videos of this

Registered 20 years agoThis looks so brilliant. Watching a link from the second video. Very entertaining, event though the guy recording spends his whole time drawing zombies and fleeing.
Man I wish I could play this.

Been playing it all weekend, IT IS FUCKING AMAZING!!!
Servers are limited and full to capacity constantly, lag and crashes are routine... but the gameplay is without peer!
Constant terror! -

Reinstalled and patched Arma 2, in unrelated news I am terrible at helicopter piloting. -

Registered 17 years agoWhy did that guy in the first video just give up? He might as well got some shots in if they were just going to be dicks. -

Registered 17 years agoThis is absolutely fucking amazing. Hands down the best zombie related gaming ever.
Very buggy and a massive pain in the arse to play at the moment but its going to be huge if it gets developed properly. -
@skuzz he drops the rifle then turns around and opens fire with his pistol.
This looks like it has a great potential, given the reports of early (albeit understandable) jank and overloaded servers I'll probably wait a bit before giving it a try though (also I don't have OA). -

Registered 20 years agoI love the way it works as an "MMO" too. You could head off and do your own thing, but chances are you'll die. I also like the idea that other players may be assholes are kill you for your stuff.
It really sounds like what all zombie games should be trying to do. A proper survival game. -

Registered 19 years agoYeah the guy being robbed actually seemed to fire first. Although if you're going to lose all your stuff I guess you may as well go down fighting.
The CHkilroy vids are great, I also love his Napolean M&B stuff, that's got me into playing with a regiment. -

Registered 19 years agoI'm sure it's sacrilege to most Arma players but I'd kill for a game that combined Arma's scale with the shooting and movement of Battlefield 3.
Will definitely be keeping an eye on this one, too scared to touch it til I hear they've ironed out some of the bugs though. -

Registered 20 years agoNever played ArmA, but played OFP to death and from the videos it doesn't look that much different - graphics aside. The controls and fluidity of it really do need improving. BF3 would be a good example in that area.
OFP had a cool TDM conquest type mod, whereby you built a base/units using resources obtained by controlling towns. Played it a few times and had some epic moments purchasing a squad and helicopter and airdropping into places. Never had grand community support to really take off though.
This zombie mod... the goal is to just survive for as long as you can? I heard some of the guys in one of the videos looking for tents. What are they used for?

Registered 17 years agoSo who is playing rather than watching the vids? .gif)
I saw Elmuerko and Tiger Walts on one server last night but I hadnt set up my multiplayer tag properly so quit out and struggled to get a game again.
I've tried to get hold of the guy who runs the UK server to see if it's going to get opened up to the public.

Registered 16 years agoHad my first go right now. I was searching around in the docks of Elektro but accidentally died while climbing down a ladder. Still, it was a fantastic experience, which I could stay and play it a bit more. -
I nipped on for a bit last night which happened to be the same server as Elmuerko and Tiger but the only people I bumped into opened fire as soon as they saw me. Felt a bit lost without a map and just wandered into the woods and occasionaly throwing flares about.
