I've just put Doom and Quake onto my phone.

Doom takes forever to load and the menus have 10 second lag on them, but once you start playing, its great.

Quake loads a bit better, but run very badly.

    Still. Bloody impressive.

(website needs registering. worth it if you have a c500, otherwise use bugmenot)

I've been playing Monkey Island on mine, but ScummVM's zone command (to swap between inventory, main screen and command list quickly) doesn't seem to work, which is a bit annoying.

Ripping DVD's to play on your phone is great!

Got all 5 series of Red Dwarf for Christmas... If you see someone on the tube watching RD on their mobile tap them on the shoulder and say Hi... 'cause it'll probably be me :D

Wife HATES RD, so it's the only place I can watch them :)

Edit: Or maybe it'll be third rock from the sun...

Sorry... For those of you with these mobile phones (Orange SPV 500) and decent sized SD memory in them, that want to watch DVD's as well, I point you to the (only?) 1 package solution available that works VERY well...

    It'll cost you £11

Once you get it, I advise that you ring up Orange and cancel itemised billing (you can still see the last 3 months in full online) which is £1.50/month and the free trial of Orange World that OSPS signed you up to (it'll be £4 next month for 3MB of data).

    Cheeky bastards.

I'm in the process of having my number ported accross from Virgin. Should happen on the 11th apparantly.

Duly noted, although I'm quite keen on using MSN down the pub for a bit, so I'll keep the GPRS for a wee while.

Getting ym number ported over as well. Adn am really hoping that I have little trouble dropping my old SIM phone numbers into the new phone.

I'd just like to say: I love my SPV-C500!!! :D
  • Deleted user 6 January 2005 16:17:37
We all do Unwashed... But PLEASE, if you are an Orange customer phone up and complain that your SPV 500 does NOT have media player 10 on it (and it should)...

Everyone else in the world has it, but those geniuses at Orange decided to TAKE IT OFF the Orange versions...

    God-Damn 'tards!

Ah, I just found a minor problem... It may not affect you, but is worth checking... When you press and hold 1 to go to your answer phone, the SPV C500 may just sit there, grinning at you (in a metaphorical sense). If it does this you're missing a setting, for some reason...

To put it right, go to Start -> Settings -> Phone -> Call options and set the Voice mail number to +447973100123. Job's a good 'un!!!

May I suggest MobiPocket as an AvantGo replacement to allow you to browse stuff offline and save on your bills.

May I add that One Stop Phone Shop are bastards. Bloody cheap but bastards.

I STRONGLY recommend that anybody who has this offer ring up Orange on 150 now and ask them if they are on Orange World, and if they are paying for it, and also if they are on half price line rental at the moment.

I was expecting to be on a free trial of Orange World, so I was intending to cancel it, but it turns out that because OSPS screwed up, I was put straight onto it with no free trial, and I had already payed for a months worth that runs out in 3 days. I also found out that my next bill will be £30, not the £15 I was expecting. The Orange billing department said that I should only be £15 a month, but OSPS screwed up. They told me to ring them on both counts. I did, and after 20 minutes of holding, got through to somebody who said it'll be sorted tomorrow morning, and I'll get a call. I don't really believe them.

I hope everybody else hasn't got these problems. Its not too bad as if OSPS don't do anything, I'm sure Orange will sort it out, but I am a little worried about the cashback now.

As far as I can see, I'm on the Orange World free trial and the correct price plan. Must've got lucky by the sound of it, but I dread the time that I'm going to have to send in my vouchers for cashback.

If they screw up simple stuff like this, what are the chances of getting our money out of them hassle free?

I don't know. As far as I could tell from the mammoth thread on thedvdforums where I found out about this, most people have been connected just fine, and charged correctly, and normally the people who get treated badly are the noisy ones.

I'm sending my claim by recorded delivery though.

Got mine yesterday and I've got to say it's fecking superb! Divx clips running fullscreen, nice fast shooters blasting away and the prospect of a quality conversion of Worms if I want it - excellent! By far the best download has been PocketSCUMM, but where can you get the floppies versions of the games nowadays? BASS and FOTAQ I have, but I fancy some Day of the Tentacle or Simon the Sorceror action

You don't need floppy versions, my CD versions of DOTT and Sam and Max work just fine. You do need to convert the midi speech files to MP3 (there is a guide to doing this somewhere, I think on modaco.com), as then they shrink from 200 odd MB to 70MB.

I've already managed to fill up my 256MB mini SD card with those 2 games, and lots of video clips.

    Until I get a bigger card (512MB is £35 at 7dayshop) I need the floppy versions ;-)

Mightily impressed with the phone though

You can just copy accross the game files (a couple of megs) which include all the text you need. The sound files are the big ones.

If you have the CDs, just look for gamename.000, gamename.001 etc. and shove them on your phone. Then run ScummVM, point it at where you put them and your done.

Apparantly it will even run Monkey Island 3, albiet at a vastly reduced resolution, and it'll take up 800MB or so.

A bit disapointed at the range available for these phones; seems like I'm better served with a Symbian phone right now.

    Ah well :)

BTW - I read on one site that you can run some Windows CE stuff on these. Anyone tried it?
