Holiday destinations for January?

Im looking for some January holiday ideas. Ideally I want it to be reasonably sunny. Somewhere within Europe has been my preference, but I cant see any European country having decent weather in January. Or is there?

I'd also like to avoid any long haul flights, so Australia is out.

    Any recommendations?

I came here to suggest Australia. I live in Brisbane and the weather is great in January.

The beaches alone are worth the long haul flight.

I'll be in China in December so I could head over to Australia from there. Reckon I'll give it some thought, I dont want to spend my time in the city though, maybe Melbourne for a day or two

Melbourne is a great place to visit, been there a few times. Maybe look at the Gold Coast which is an hours drive south of Brisbane city or Sunshine Coast which is 2 hours north.

Canary Islands are worth a look. I've been out in January before and whilst not summer temperatures it was still warm and a fuck load better than England at the time.
