@DUFFMAN5 Stick with DS3 man honestly. I don't actually think it does get worse on Tau Volantis. I really enjoyed it from beginning to end. That's no mean feat considering it comes in around 20hrs. Did all the side quests as well.

It's funny as I've been playing DS2 off and on since and there's as much action in that, easily. I will agree the setting is better though.
Re sticking with it or not. I'm a stubborn bastard so will more than likely stick with it, even though as yet (Chapter 6) it has not totally clicked. Where is my Blue line, showing me where to go gone!

I like the Dead Space "universe" enough to keep plodding on, when I'm not being forced to fight I really like it. The game would have benefited from a mode where you have none or very few enemies to fight, I know some games have a mode like this, they call it something like "I just want a story" mode or such. The atmosphere and sound is top notch, like the other games in the series.

I think co-op could be a good option for me, I managed to get 10 mins in some American's game last night, we were going to pop sum Aliens in the Ass/bottom! ;) however I have had terrible internet connection (virgin) this weekend so after getting discounted from LIVE for the 3rd time in less than half an hour I gave up and watched There will be blood* instead.

If anyone is playing on 360 and fancies a bit of coop send me an invite :)

*on Netflix so I managed just about an hour before...you guessed it.

Isn't the blue line under the right analogue stick? :-)

Too bad you're on 360, I'd fancy some coop on this.

I'm with Wunty, I enjoyed it start to finish, certainly not as much as 1 or 2, but this I blame on series fatigue (I played Extraction a few weeks ago, too). I especially liked the last 20% of the game. 20 hours is optimistic imo; I needed closer to 30 to reach the end, but then I'm the exploring type and I was playing on hard, if that makes a difference.

And I don't think it's clicked with me until at least the 10 hour mark, so there's hope for you still.

Re the Blue line it always was before (previous games) but unless mine is broken it does not make it appear.

Are you on PS3 then ? if it ever gets released on PS+ I will join you ;)

It already was on PS+ a few months ago, sorry. Although typically for me, I got it for actual money sometime prior. Luckily, it was on sale and I paid 5 pouds or so. More than worth it for that price. :-)

So I just fought the ... on the Ice Planet! that was fun. I am still enjoying but I have played the last few chapters co-op and I think that is the way to play until the end. Doesn't lessen the "horror" as it is far more an action game anyway.

The weakest of the series but has enough to keep me playing.

The ending being expanded upon via DLC after the cliffhanger is a bit of a sting.

One cliffhanger, followed by another. Is a conclusive ending too much to ask for? Especially since this seems like the end of the road for Dead Space.

A series worth playing, but one that never quite reached it's potential.

A VR edition could be pant shittingly good.

If that's not a significant amount of money to you, go for it.

You're just getting another cliffhanger rather than any conclusion or closure. For games in particular that always feels like a cheat, if it's a film all you have to do is watch, for a game though, this game. Quicktime events, item management, combat, so much combat… So much work for nothing.

I just watched the ending of the DLC on Youtube having felt conned by the main game lacking a conclusion.

Combat frequency should be about the same as the rest of the game surely.

@Cappy That's not true, it reached its potential in Dead Space 2.

Opinions by themselves carry no weight.

I've been over this many times before but structurally Dead Space has always been inferior in the context of a survival horror game. None of the sequels ever made any progress in that respect.

You always know when the monsters are coming (hint right after you press any button to activate whatever doohickey you've been sent to), thus Dead Space is a poor survival horror series but a decent third person action series.

Enemy encounters in Dead Space are far too predictable, now thats something that's true.

I'm playing through Classic now, and I am reminded why this game pissed me off so much. I have a fully pimped plasma cutter against the black feeders and they do NOT give a fuck. They just mob me and stun lock me. So I fucked off to get a javelin gun, and now they are my bitches. That right there is bullshit.

I was meaning to get back to it to go through the other modes and get the trophies, but it's just not as good as the previous two and I haven't had enough motivation.

Have you done the coop stuff yet, T.G?

No man, I haven't, and I would love to do it with an upstanding EGer, if you're on for it. I'm almost finished my Classic run too, so I might even have Devil Horns...

Well, that's the Classic run out of the way. Now it's time to run through Survival mode, and then Hardcore Mode. So far it's pretty easy on Survival. The difficulty seems to be considerably lower than it was on Classic.

    @ubergine

To be fair, I think weapon crafting as a concept should feel more appropriate to the Fallout gameplay than a survival horror with microtransactions.

Saying that though, I didn't feel the crafting was the reason DS3 was a bit crap.

I will gladly take you up on that. I'm not sure how co-op works, however, can we jump straight to the co-op missions or do we play the entire game?

Am I right in remembering you were in the Far East? I should have a couple of hours tomorrow morning.

I'm in Japan, so I'm not sure how we'd synch up. Japanese time, I could make myself available pretty much any time between say 6pm and 1am on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Not too sure how it works either, but I think that the first co-op mission we can do is the Brusilev, after getting to that graveyard of ships, and if you progress beyond that, you can always skip back using chapter select.

What difficulty do you wanna do it on? I guess we have to match that up?

I basically did the vanilla game (possibly on Hard), and that was some months ago, so you can expect my skills to be rusty. My main goal is the co-op trophies (co-op fun is a bonus), so any difficulty will do as long as they unlock.

Sundays are great for an extended session, if you can stand screaming kids over the mic, or if it's still doable/fun without comms. Thursday morning is great, I can be on 6-8pm your time, if my calculations are correct. Unfortunately I have to go to work after. Tue as well, but I have to leave an hour earlier so an hour-long session is probably not worth it?

Don't worry about how long you can stay on for man, I appreciate that gaming time is subordinate to real-life, so even if you can only stay on for 30 minutes or something, it's no bother for me.

How about we try Thursday 6-8pm Tokyo time, and we can kick off on the Brusilev, and see if we can't put some manners on the necromorphs in there. co-op trophies will require us allowing ourselves to be raped by the fuckers occasionally, so Hard is probably the difficulty we need. If that's cool with you, I'm ready. (^-^)

@Telepathic.Geometry Alright, Thursday 6 pm Tokyo time (that's 9 am Warsaw time if I'm correct) is on.
