Could have the option to play the game in chronological order. Can't really see them having anything else they could put into the game bar that weird training guff that was an extra with the special edition.
Never played Two Souls, but loved Heavy Rain. Seemed this one got a bit of a bashing though, and I've been put off trying it. What's the Director's Cut going to be? A Kingdom of Heaven-style improvement over the original or ten extra minutes of scenes added?
(I'm guessing the latter) -

Registered 8 years ago@Kichijoten Same here, really liked the game and it was at least one of my favourite games last year, but to go through it again? I doubt it. -

Registered 10 years agoI thought it was ace, and emotionally connected with it. The only game/film to make me cry in years. But it did have it's issues, however I would recommend it in a heartbeat. -

Registered 16 years agoWhilst I liked Beyond Two Souls, I'm not sure I could face playing through it again, a few upgrades in graphics and frame rate and an extra scene or two just isn't enough.
When you have a scene like The Party you're wondering why other games aren't doing things this interesting, the awkwardness of the protagonist being dropped into this social situation with a room full of strangers is mirrored by the player not knowing what they should be doing at this party. It only works once though, play the scene again and you know what's coming and start to see the limitations of how few choices are actually available to you.
They need to fix some serious problems for the next game, they've regressed from Heavy Rain where there were more choices and actual consequences to something more along the lines of the Walking Dead where the game is pushing you onto a pathway and hoping you don't realise it.
I'd like to see a game which is a cohesive whole rather than broken up into distinct scenes, it's rather jarring since Beyond Two Souls jumps around all over the place with gaps of years between scenes.
If Beyond Two Souls were a film or TV series it would be a very strange one indeed, there is nothing gluing all these scenes together, for something derided as lacking in gameplay Beyond Two Souls would fall apart without it's interactive component, it's the only thread of continuity running through the game. -

Registered 10 years agoIf it's a directors cut, maybe they will sort out some of the pacing issues and move some chapters about to make it less jarring. If it's priced ala metro then I might be game but seeing as it cost a fortune to make I imagine a hefty price tag sadly. As mentioned above the soundtrack was fantastic as well. I got the special edition but never did play the dlc. -

Registered 14 years agoPersonally I loved the game and I feel as though many reviewers, including Eurogamer, completely missed the point of the game. Most certainly Beyond: Two Souls is one of my top games of 2013 (absolutely a 9/10 game!).
It's individual of course, but I found the story to be most compelling. Jodie's and Nathan's relationship evolving is certainly very well built up. And add to that the fact that I've always found the search for what lies beyond, i.e. the other side a fascinating topic. Not to mention the ethtical boundaries of science that come into play.
I can understand the gameplay is really love-it-or-hate-it. Me, I found the action sequences were thrilling once you actually understand the logic behind Jodie's movement. I just wish there had been more of it! Also playing as the entity Aiden had its fair share of great moments, even though that aspect could probably have been developed even more. But no game is perfect. -

Registered 17 years agoAfter having this for months (sold my first copy still sealed) I opened it today* and I'm only at the Party but I love it, massive empathy for Jodie, much like Sarah and Ellie already. I love HR so nailed on I would enjoy.
Hope to get a good few hours with the game this week.
*I bought a ps4 and xboxone on Black Friday and I'm spending more time on the ps3 than all my consoles combined. -

Registered 8 years ago@DUFFMAN5 it is amazing all the way, except the above mentioned chapter. It is not bad, it just is not up to the standards of the rest of the game. my goty that year. -

Registered 16 years agoI loved the lot to be honest, that chapter too. It wasn't quite up to the drama of Heavy Rain for me, but it was interesting and certainly quite different to most other games out there! -

Registered 15 years agoI thought it was fine in and of itself, but it affected the pacing of the game for the worse.
The game's biggest problem, as with all of Cage's games, is that it's simply very badly written with a nonsensical plot. Forgivable perhaps in an action heavy game, but not one when this is the central premise.
I still enjoyed it to an extent, and there's nothing like it really, but I wish someone tried this sort of approach who actually had an interesting story to tell, or could write. -

Registered 17 years agoI'm currently enjoying my second playthrough of this (just done the Navajo level). It is quite an uneven game, with some really great sections - especially later in the game - mixed in with some super dull 'scene-setting' ones.
Still, a very enjoyable game overall and in some respects better than Heavy Rain. -

Registered 14 years agoSome scenes will really stay with me and at least they hired proper actors for this one, but the controls are shonky and someone really needs to gently tell David Cage that he isn't all that as a writer.
A non-episodic Telltale game with this sort of budget would blow it away. -

The gameplay is more ambitious, though more flawed for it imo, but I don't know how anyone can find the writing better and in the case of Heavy Rain the acting isn't great either.

Registered 17 years agoA good few chapters down now and still really enjoying...although I do not like the combat at all, I can never remember to push the stick in the right direction, as I understand it this does not effect the gameplay but it just annoys me, why can't my brain remember simple instructions, please see QTE's also, I fookin hate them.
I still have loads of empathy for Jodie those fuckers at the party deserved what they got, esp the dude...cunt

Registered 17 years ago...so returned to this today, looking at my post above I last played 4 months ago.
Anyway completed this morning and overall I really enjoyed it. Still could not work out the slowmo dodge fighting but thankfully those events were not instafail.
Enjoyed the snow level a lot, looked lovely. I enjoyed the story and was always rooting for Jodie.
I still think Heavy Rain is the better game, but very happy to have completed. -
David Cage has good ideas and is a good director, but I think it's time he handed over writing duties to someone else. -

Just got this for the PS4. I'm a massive fan of Quantic Dreams but I never played this one as I sold my PS3 before it came out.
Only about six chapters or so in, but so far quite a step down after Heavy Rain. Somehow what felt like immersive storytelling has now shifted a bit into the worst kind of 'press the bottom and then the story continues' kind of thing. It's such a subtle difference but Heavy Rain for the most part got it right, whereas in places this feels a bit shit.
Still, some of it is excellent as well, and at its best it's as good as whats come before. Just feels there's more of the bad stuff. -

Registered 16 years agoI really enjoyed Beyond. I've never played Heavy Rain and most people say that's better so I've got that to look forward to, but I loved all the ghost stuff. I still play to play again some day and change some of the decisions.
There are some truly great sections in there but I can't deny it felt a bit inconsistent sometimes. The first few chapters are basically the tutorial so I wouldn't judge it too harshly from those alone, as there are some great sections with lots of freedom in there.
Edit: I stuck tags on it just in case - they're not story spoilers, just my general feeling on pacing. Better safe than sorry though.gif)

Registered 15 years agoI will definitely finish it. I think Quantic Dream are the only dev that I've completed every game they've made.
Hope Heavy Rain comes out on PS4 as well. I'd absolutely love to play that through again. -
Heavy Rain is out in March. -
I'd put both of the games in my PS3 favourites. With the way Beyond jumps around perhaps the story isn't as good as Heavy Rain as it needed to be simple enough to follow in an unusual order. It reminded of the film Memento in some ways. Also because I'd seen 'future' events it felt like I was less in control of what happened. I should play it again sometimes as there are a few things I didn't see, so I've heard.
Loved the snowy section.
