I'm sure this will be good, but after 3D Land, it's just too soon and looks too underwhelming. Edited by JuanKerr at 13:48:00 10-08-2012 |

Registered 10 years agoFrench Commercial, there are "spoilers" but its Mario so you probably have a good idea what to expect. Some of the stuff thats going on near the end looks good.

So now we know it'll cost £40 on the eShop, i'll ask again. How are people going to go about purchasing this one, anyway? -

If it was £20 on the eshop I'm not sure i would have been tempted but £40 is a joke!

Its a real shame too cos nintendo would have probably done really well if they'd put this at £25 on the eshop. No ones gonna download it at £40! -

Registered 11 years agoReally it's going to be £40?!
Nintendo are so out of touch it's almost unbelieveable now.

Registered 10 years agoRetailers are supposed to set the price for the cards with a code for the digital version. Can't see anywhere to get them online at the moment but hopefully they will be £30 -

Yes, Nintendo are the only company to have overpriced DD versions of retail games.

There's overpriced, and then there's what appears to be the most expensive handheld game of all time. -

FIFA for £45, anyone? -

Registered 11 years agoOf course they're not, Steam is shite here as are numerous others but £40 fucking quid for a 3DS game?! The Vita is light years ahead in this regard, DD is actually cheaper than retail for it, thank Christ. Seems to be a minimum of €5 in the difference at launch and they're having pretty good sales and reductions regularly.
Unfortunately there are very few decent games for the Vita, but thats another argument.
I don't see why you would be willing to give Nintendo a bye on this. -

Actually you are correct, this is the one and only example of price parity i have seen in store and online on Vita (certainly here).

Registered 14 years agoWhat parity? FIFA is around £25 in most online stores. Unless you mean discrepancy?
Uncharted for £40. Marvel vs. Capcom 3 for £40 etc., all at least a tenner more expensive than retail versions.
The thing is, Nintendo can get away with charging £40 for a Mario game, because the retail version will never go down in price and will stay in the charts for years. Not excusing them, but the high DD price for NSMB2 really isn't a shock - just look at the prices for eShop games!

Registered 11 years agoWell you're obviously getting Vita games much cheaper at retail than we are in ROI. Perhaps NSMB 2 will be more attractively priced here. -

Registered 14 years agoSome games on PSN are insanely priced, but there are at least some bargains to be had now and again.
How Nintendo can justify charging £40 is beyond me. The cost to them is much, much less than having to ship a boxed game. To make no concession at all is just arrogant.
Even Sony knock a fiver off most Vita games.

Parity here (ROI) in bricks and mortar shops was what I was talking about.

Registered 9 years agoIt doesn't bode well for the future of the eshop- I was looking forward to picking up a digital copy of Fire Emblem etc as a digital etc, but not if it costs an extra tenner each.
Seeing as Game still sell NSMB and Mario Kart DS for over £20 each 6 years or more after release, perhaps we'll see a mild discount on the price in about 2018? -

Yep, I was originally opposed to the idea but managed to snare it for £18.00 using my Shopto discount points. This will however be my last 2D Mario game if Ninty dont shake things up next time. -

Registered 9 years agoOrdered it from Amazon. Quite looking forward to it. Maybe it's because I'm a hopeless retro nerd, but I like the references to older mario games and music tracks etc. -
I received my copy from Shopto this morning, but I've not had time to play it yet. -

Registered 9 years agoHalfway through World 2 atm and I'm really enjoying it. Levels feel better designed than the Wii version (thank god), and the challenge is noticeably increased from the DS iteration. There's some very tight level design, and I'm surprised at the variety. The new powerups are cool, as well as being fairly rare and there's a nice risk/reward mechanic in place - especially for the coin-spewing hat which has caused more than few stupid deaths in the race to get the most bling out of it before it wears off.
Only had a quick go on one of the Coin Rush levels so far, but they seem quite challenging and there's definitely long-term hi-score appeal there.
Overall It's a really good game. It's not reinventing the wheel by any stretch, but played in short bursts as it's definitely designed for and it's another superb addition to the Mario platform games. -

Registered 9 years agoAhhhhh I thought it was on a timer! Cheers for that info fawksey.
(though I'm a little disappointed actually now! Having it on a timer, and sticking it on by default in Coin Rush would lead to some really frantic levels)

@darkmorgado
That's the kind of succinct, excellent sounding feedback that'll have me skipping down town to buy a console with this (i am something of a Mario fanboy and it's difficult enough as is).
/gives bank card to OH to mind in case of uh, 'surprise expenditures'. -
@FuzzyDuck
You're welcomeI thought I would give my hands-on impressions as there seems to be a lot of people with doubts sitting on the fence with this. I'd say you shouldn't worry, it's another great Mario game.
