My views on F2P games changed recently... as I used to be pretty against them. I think Star Trek Online may have been the tipping point for me of realizing that cash shops can be fun and fair even. The months I play STO I pay about $10 for cool items, and the months I don't play, I obviously don't spend a dime. Do you think F2P is finally evolving to match the demands of us Westerners? I look at games like Otherland, which looks epic and has me really excited (loved the novels), and I see perfect opportunities for more fair, vanity based cash shops. That game also looks like it's a AAA production, so it makes me think that we may be seeing more quality F2P games in the future as well. Thoughts? |

I think it is. I really, really think it is, y'know. It's just evolving and getting better every day. -
I see it as a temporary stop gap until the "pay what you think its worth" model is introduced into the mainstream of dribbling pad chewers.
Probably talking 10 years at this rate though. -

What do you mean.. "Pay what you think its worth"? Like the way some bands do it now... paying what you want for the game? And you mean paying what you want each month as a subscription fee?

But isn't that essentially what F2P is now? You pay what you want in the cash shop.
