So my iOS Xbox Live app has just had an update and looks like its the first stage of the smart glass rollout. I can now launch games and apps from my phone and control media playback etc. totally pointless at the moment as offers no functionality that my controller doesn't have. But I'm looking forward to fucking with my girlfriends head when she's trying to watch Netflix. |

Don't see anything smart glass about this, it's just remote upgrade to the app? -

Registered 17 years agoThe app now syncs with certain 360 apps to show additional content etc and you can use it to directly control your 360 which you couldn't previously. Like I said, seems like a 'first stage'.
Edit -- and isn't 'smart glass' just marketing garve for remote functionality on tablets / touchscreens anyway?

That'd be pretty fucking sweet.
Awkward, frustrating, counter-productive....but so fucking sweet.
I need a new Xbox. -

Registered 14 years agoWonder if they'll allow us to use the touchscreen as a keypad for searching, messaging n stuff? Guess that'd hurt their chat pad sales though... -
I've not been paying too much attention to this, but then a thought struck me: it'd actually be really useful (for me) if I could stream game play to my iPad's screen when the telly is being used, well, to watch telly.
Is this supported? If not, any chance it will be? -

Registered 14 years agoOoh, that'd be great. I imagine it's something they'd be making a big noise about if it was happening though. Then again, this thread is the first I'd heard of it... -

Registered 16 years agoAfter watching the E3 presentation I'm still unsure as to what exactly it is. From what I understand, it's just remote functionality for smart phones/tablets? Or is there much more to it than that. Why not use your bloody remote or controller, which both work perfectly fine for the job in hand, and don't require you to load an app.
What was all the guff about watching a film on your telly and using your tablet to flick through cast lists and whatnot? Why the hell would you want to do that while watching the film, and how is it any different from watching a film with IMDB loading on a laptop next to you anyway?
It all reminded me of that Charlie Brooker sketch from a few months ago with that guy watching Question Time while 'tweeting along'.
I got the feeling I was missing a lot of the point with that presentation, but it was so poorly explained. The bloke just kept moving from one 'function' to another so fast he was like an excitable 9 year old with ADD explaining why he loves his Matchbox cars so much. With each function only bringing the questions "why?" and "what exactly is the point?"

@SomaticSense
I think the intention is to replicate some of the functionality of the Wii U tablet, so you could (for example) have your inventory on there in Skyrim and change your load out without having to go through the game's menus. It's very possible I've misunderstood though, because as I said, I've not been paying too much attention. -

so do you mean this could potentially work with any tablet?
I hadn't paid any attention either, but thought it was more a Kinect style add-on. -
It's supposed to work with iOS, android and Win 8/7 phones and tablets.
It's the Wii U stuff basically. -

Hsven't managed to get the Android app to connect to Xbox yet. Assume it's a router issue. -

I did have that correct.
It's suddenly starting working.
Really impressed with the control of Internet Explorer, makes the browser very usable. -

Registered 16 years agoIt's early days but the potential is there, Internet explorer all of a sudden becomes much more usable, entering Web pages on your phone fast and scrolling with the touch screen is surprisingly good.
It works quite well with xbox music too, giving artist bio and other info while the music is playing.
I'm mildly impressed -
