Cobalt, fuck Burgundy. Cobalt is a type of metal, Burgundy is a type of wine.

Haven't had a proper look but stuff looks cool, I guess. I must admit I was hoping for a Surface Book 3.

So who's the target audience for the double tablet thingy? The Facepube/Instawank poster?

I mean it's nice design and all but can't see this as a productivity device. Burned myself badly in the past trying to live with a netbook as my sole computing device and it was just too small to be comfortably working with - both in terms of screen and keyboard size.

Phone is also nice on paper but too large, and having to fold it around to make a call or use it... Not sure. Can see it as a mobile productivity device for people who are constantly on the move and work consists of sending short messages etc but thats not the majority of users out there.

Nobody actually makes calls with their phone anymore.
  • Deleted user 3 October 2019 08:49:16
Fine. Still will be interesting to see how people will use it with one hand (say while carrying a bag or having a wank).

The new Surface Pro 7 looks pretty good this year.

I use a Surface Go for casual couch gaming (huge benefit over an iPad being I have my steam library) and it works great for indy games, Civ 6 etc.

The new Surface Pro 7 though has a vastly improved graphics chip so would expect it to perform similar to an X1/PS4 which would be pretty awesome for such a small device, with native ability to just connect your Xbox pad.

Not sure about the Surface Neo, but the Duo (Phone) yes please!

    https://youtu.be/kU78s9ExFFA

I think I want that! Only with the keyboard mind.

I have no idea if the Duo will be any good but I'm kind of curious by it. As excellent as my iPhone is, I'm increasingly bored with just continuing with the same each year.

I used to love the old days where you'd get a new phone every 12 months and get to mess around with all the new features and a different OS each time. Maybe this could tempt to break the cycle.

Austin Walker also made the excellent point yesterday that because this closes, it makes ignoring your phone, or not being distracted by it, that little bit easier, which I'm all for.

As always, however, with it being the first generation of a new device there might be some teething problems, so I'd wait a few months first before ordering one. Though having said that, my experiences so far with the Surface family of devices has been extremely positive so Microsoft has a lot of my trust already.

That was a surprisingly impressive set of new products. I'm into them making apple look like a dinosaur while out-science fictioning samsung.

Definitely some nice features on the new Surfaces, mostly the X. Not keen on the Duo stuff personally.

But as a portable drawing tablet the iPad still reigns king, and as it handles everything else (but PC games, which I'm personally not fussed about) I'll stick with that for a for a while.

Has anyone got any experience with Windows on ARM? The X is a potentially compelling device for use both portably and connected to my 4K USB monitor. Having a 1070-powered desktop hooked up to my second display is a bit overkill and I don’t want a portable device with a fan in it as I got used to having a silent notebook with the old MacBook, whose Intel graphics chip can’t really handle the high resolution. It’s either that or try and wangle something desktop-like from an iPad Pro but I’m still not convinced by its ability to browse and watch videos at once.

Jeez it’s android based. Android and tablet are like shit and face. Don’t go together.

I was pleased to hear about the USB C upgrade for the laptops, but then there is no Thunderbolt. I thought I could pair one with me e-GPU, for VR. Will keep my dell xps 13 for another year!

It's not really a tablet though? That's the neo version which runs Windows. If they can adapt the phone android to it and Google have some experience in helping Samsung with the folding monster then I'm not worried.

The smartphone market is bland and in need of a kick up the arse. I'm hoping this is it.

Absolutely, I would have preferred the phone to run windows to be honest, that would be much more interesting.

HMRC decided to save up for me and MS are doing a pre-order offer on trading in old surface pro's which has all led to a pre-order for a surface pro 7 :)

I'm upgrading from a Surface Pro 4 so it better be light years better! Although I'm going to the MS store on Friday to check out the Laptop 3.

    Anyone tried them yet?

    Any help appreciated.

Work replaced my old laptop with a Surface Pro.

Anybody using one for work? I would like to connect up a 23inch monitor as staring at a tablet screen all day is murder on my eyes. Maybe a new keyboard as well.

Is it straightforward or do I need to buy adapters and extra junk.

You'll need one of these I think

Cool. That looks like the bit I need.

That and a 100 quid for a monitor seems worth it.

They might, I did ask the question so will see what they say.

I wanted one anyway for myself so don't mind dropping a few notes on new and shiny.

Rather than dongle lyfe, get a monitor that uses USB-C and a few other ports. USB-C will carry picture, charge, peripheral and network traffic, so you only need to plug one cable into your surface to get all the other jiggery pokery.

Basically, if you get a decent monitor, you can plug everything into that and use it as a hub.

    @General_Martok Was it a decent trade-in offer? Gutted I missed this. I have a Surface Pro 4 from 2016. 4GB ram and 128gb storage. A bit slow.
