Registered 5 years agoIs it a Pro 6 or 7? Only the 7 has usb-c, the 6 has a shitty micro display port. I would assume it’s the latest and greatest only I know a lot of companies are still a gen or two behind with their hardware. -

Registered 12 years agoI’d get the dongle. The usb-c monitor sounds nice, until you’re somewhere else and need an hdmi port to hook up to a projector or something. -

Registered 5 years ago@BurnoutJunkie I think I received about £200 for my surface pro 4. Considering I paid around £1000 for it 4 years ago that seemed OK. -

Registered 16 years ago@General_Martok Thanks. I think I paid maybe £599 for mine with a keyboard. I got it replaced last year (or maybe they year before) - I found out right before the 2-year point that there was an issue with some screens and I'd noticed a problem with my screen. So they took mine and sent me a replacement. I regret not getting one with 8GB ram when I bought it. -

Registered 18 years agoThanks for the advice above all. It's a Pro 7.
Turns out work will spring for it which is nice.
They have actually been pretty good support wise with a straightforward ordering system that includes desks, chairs, all sorts. I have all that shit so just need the monitor and gubbins.
Anyway I ordered one with a USB C connection. They are repurposing existing office equipment so will probably take a while and I'm not sure they actually have that many onsite. May end up with a new one.
They did ping me a temporary Mastercard with 30 quid for a monitor stand so I'll splash out on the daddy of stands. Which probably wont fit... -

Registered 18 years agoI run my Pro 7 through a USB-C monitor with keyboard and mouse connected, no bother. Charges it quickly too so I haven’t even taken the normal charger out of the box, it all comes through the one cable.
In terms of monitor stand, it’s outside of the price range but I really like the Ergotron monitor arms. The Amazon branded one is literally the same one but the prices seem to alternate on which one is the cheapest. You get so much desk space back! -

Registered 18 years agoGreat stuff thanks.
I'm definitely going to invest in a keyboard as the MS cover one is OK but I am old and need a tracking pad and traditional layout.
Assume it all plugs into the monitor? -

Registered 18 years agoDouble check what monitor you're getting - my monitor (LG 27UD88-W) has some USB-A ports in it so when I plug in the Surface they just go straight across with my wired keyboard and Logitech mouse receiver. You should have at least two USB-A ports as otherwise the manufacturer is missing a big advantage of the USB-C connection. -
Great stuff, thanks.
