If I could do a straight swap, I would, but I can't. I'm not paying 80 quid to upgrade the screens either. Hope this console boosts software sales in the coming weeks. Would love to see more than 2 or 3 titles in the top 40 again.
Edit - I'm now mulling over that offer. Oh the shame...

Registered 16 years agoI'm really in two minds about the XL now after thinking it over. I do like the sound of bigger screens and less cramp-inducing controls, but I also quite like getting my 10 coins a day and streetpass and what have you for carrying the thing around with me. The 3DS M only just fits in the leg pockets of my usual summer shorts, and also just fits into my jeans back pocket. I'm not sure I could carry around the XL so easily. -

Registered 16 years agoOh yeah, I'm certainly in no rush to get one. The 3DS was the first console I bought at launch, and it's not exactly a good time for me to be spending money on 90% redundant videogame hardware. -

Registered 7 years agoI will prob stick to the standard 3 ds to be honest was really liking the look of the xl but the more I think on it the more i think it would be me buying it for the sake of shiny. I have no real complaints about the one I own now so no need to upgrade.
I also do not want to spend money on a hardware revision and miss out on some must have games, same worry about the wil u -

See my initial impressions in the main 3DS thread. Zavvi also delivered for me yesterday.
Despite the knock in crispness of the top screen, Kid Icarus and Mario Kart look sooooooo good. Really makes a difference having a bigger screen. -

Registered 7 years agoWell I'm on my third one...two had scratched screen (little dots on the top screen that followed the frame of the lower screen. The first one had a very yellow upper screen and the second two (yellow) but not as much.
Just rang customer support - they claim to have not heard of the problem but have logged it in and asked me to return the unit.
Someone on another forum suggested that it was the adhesive that fixed the screen not drying out - causing a yellow hue to the screen, and that play will dry it out. I smell b.s but I'll give it a week before I return it.
Weirdly the screen seems a lot more yellow when the 3d is disabled.
Anybody else noticing these problems? -

Registered 7 years agoIt's not on mate, that was one of the first things I did. The Screen on the Xl is indeed a lot warmer than the OG model. -
You're going to get scratches on the top screen whatever you do to be fair. If you had them from out of the box then that's obviously not on. -

Registered 7 years agoThats what I told the dude on Nintendo customer services - the scratches where there as soon as it was taken out of the box - meaning it's a manufacturing fault.
The one I have now has no scratches but a warm screen. -
This isn't something I noticed with the models in Gamestation and they've surely seen some wear already. -

Registered 7 years agoIt's a preference thing really, but I do prefer the cooler temp of my og 3ds.
I'm going to keep this for a week an see if it improves. -
Well so much for the wonderful 3DS XL! Mine has developed a fault on the top screen. I now have a permanent line running vertically across the screen.
Just actioned a return and exchange. Got to wait a couple of days so I can do the system transfer back to my old 3DS. So glad I didn't get rid of it now... -

Registered 7 years agoMine has no done it after a few days use. Well thats me going back to game for 3ds xl number 4.
It must happen to all of them then. I'm going to put a glasses cloth between the screens when I close the unit. -
