This will apparently be the next Marvel IP to come to the big screen with a release date of 2014. The villain is set to be Thanos, following his appearance at the end of the Avengers, and will lead in to Avengers 2. Looks like Marvel are looking to delve into the cosmic side of their universe on film, which isn't particularly surprising after Thor and the appearance of the Ultimate-version Skrulls in the Avengers. Bit surprised by this to be honest, as the group isn't exactly a household name and most of the members are pretty obscure even to most comic fans. |

Registered 13 years agoI quite liked Thor. It had a few laughs in it, strong performances and felt fairly epic compared to your standard superhero flick. -

This went well below the threshold of average. It was utter utter tosh of the lowest order. It made He-Man look like high art

I liked Thor, but the one I liked the most from all the ones leading up to the Avengers was Hulk with Edward Norton. I was really unhappy he wasn't in the (so far) final film.
Also, it would never even occur to me to read the comics. -

There's rumours Nova will be in it, buoyed by the increasing presence he's being given in cartoons and the comics in the last year. -

So, in essence these guys are a bit like Marvel's Green Lanterns then? But, with a fucking stupid raccoon? -

Registered 13 years agoNot really. More like the Avengers in space. They only have loose (if any) affiliation or loyalty to each other, completely different power sets and band together to fight threats that couldn't be handled individually. -

Even I've never heard of this before the film rumours. I'm surprised they would go for this before some of the more obvious choices.
Wonder why. -

Registered 13 years agoI'm looking forward to it. GotG are fecking awesome. Seriously, ignore the stupid concept and the fact that one of the characters is a talking tree and another is an anthropomorphic raccoon, and go and read Annihilation. It's one of the best cosmic comics in years. -

Yeah, I thought it was quite well done. Compared to other Marvel films I think it's actually one of the best.

Marvel films are pretty forgettable though. It was a nice spectacle as effects allowed them to bring them to screen but they are really dull on repeat viewings. fairly recent ones like Captain America, Iron Man 2, Incredible Hulk are awful , Avengers has a few moments but pretty average. Marvel need to step it up.

a mean...a raccoon? Which executive producer greenlighted this? -

He's not just any raccoon. He smokes cigars and wields a machine gun.
And he has a friend called Wal Russ. I'll let you guess what he is.
