Vin Diesel apparently plays Groo, according to something I read earlier.

Epic fantasy Sci fi is welcome even with a Raccoon. Don't want Star Wars forever. Is it any more absurd?

Rocket Raccoon acts as the "Guardian of the Keystone Quadrant", an area of outer space sealed off from the rest of the cosmos by the so-called Galacian Wall. Rocket is captain of the starship Rack 'n' Ruin, and he and his first mate Wal Russ (a talking walrus) come from the planet Halfworld in the Keystone Quadrant, an abandoned colony for the mentally ill where the animal companions were genetically manipulated to grant them human level intelligence and bipedal body construction for many to become caretakers of the inmates. Rocket was Halfworld's chief law officer ("ranger") who protected the colony against various threats.[8]

Disney seeing a bonus in the untapped Furrie/Furry fanbase?

Yeah, that sounds shit unless it's a children's cartoon.

It must be a trap to stop the future gene pool getting contaminated. They go in to see the film, but never come out.

Actually reading back through the last few post, this thread appears to have been abandoned to the negative nancy/bunch of whiney A-hole cross section of EG's members. Nevermind.

Yes. No one seemed to give a shit with trees talking in LoTR infact I'm pretty sure those films went on to do quite well.

You can make a good film about anything.

Damn, missed that trailer! I expect we'll get a full length trailer to coincide with the release of Captain America 2 though.

Why is everyone against Rocket Raccoon so much? Every time this film gets mentioned somebody will bring up Rocket Raccoon as a reason to laugh at this movie, basically saying it's going to be shit because it's got a talking, rocket launcher wielding raccoon in it. When did that sort of stuff get so unpopular? I miss the days when videogames had more inventive (even if completely stupid) protagonists. You don't see the likes of Gex or Earthworm Jim anymore. Also, Batman is about a grown man who dresses up as a bat to try to scare such monsters as a man who is like a clown, a man who dresses up as a scarecrow and a part man, part crocodile being, the Batman films have done alright I think.

Also, he's a rocket launcher wielding raccoon, what's not to like about that?

@MatMan562 That's the thing - people don't know what to expect with RR. I've always thought him more like an actual animal version of Wolverine. And most audiences have only children's films for comparison to other anthropomorphic characters.

Possibly around the time that this happened

@McEwan I guess that makes some sense. I could understand it more if it was going to be in a more serious film/ universe but it's one based on comic books so... I dunno!

@Mola_Ram What the chuff is that?

    Howard the Duck

Produced by George Lucas! Hard as I know that is to believe, given his reputation of smart, level-headed decision making.

Fun fact - "Howard the Duck" almost put me off films for life. My parents took me to see when I was about six and the whole storyline about the aliens had me terrified. The fact it was done in a similar fashion to "The Exorcist" didn't help.

I found out years later that it was meant to be a certificate 15 (like it was in the states) but they tried to recut it.

That scene with Lea Thompson on the bed is still one of the best scenes ever.

I concur, i watched this a few months back and its nowhere near as bad as people make out. Seriously, watch it then watch something like Practical Magic or Runaway Bride and Howard the Duck suddenly becomes a masterpiece.

The tree has a name, you know!

... looks like a spiritual successor to Serenity in an alternative universe.

That's a very, very good thing.

    : )

it seems like Joss Whedon had some scripting duty judging by a couple of the jokes. I even like the look of RR...and the tree dude
