Registered 20 years agoUh? A 50mm is not a replacement for a 35mm in my book, no matter how wide it goes. I suppose if you can set up every shot and only have one subject (e.g. product shots) then they might be interchangeable, but otherwise 35mm is a standard lens on DX while 50mm is for much closer portrait shots. On FX 50mm is your standard and 35mm is a party-shot length.
Still, it's your gear. Not for me though - I'm happy with my 35mm f/2 for the time being at least. -

Registered 14 years agoThats exactly it. My focus is entirely on portrait generally and I got a great deal on the 50mm.
I have the kit lens for anything wider that I need so the 35 is being sacrificed. -
Ah, fair enough. I'm trying to train myself off the kit zoom when I can get away with it, and I couldn't live with just a 50mm prime. I does like my 35mm f/2, even if it's not as purty as the 35mm f/1.8.
