    @MrWonderstuff Indeed. I doubt that MS would be putting such effort into their MR stuff if VR was on the way out. Having said that though, I'm going to wait a while before committing. First thing is for the MS MR headsets to be able to access the Steam VR store library.

    Rez is awesome in vr, it does start you off in kind of an easy mode though.

    Eurogamer doesn't seem to be picking this up (it is about VR I suppose) but now you can use the new Windows Mixed Reality headsets with SteamVR.

    Pretty big deal really, some of the headsets are a bit cheaper than the Rift (and a lot cheaper than the Vive) and the controllers are tracked by the headset so no need for any base stations. Could introduce a lot of healthy competition into the sector.

    The screendoor effect should be reduced somewhat with the higher res "screens"

    If anyone in here likes flight sims you might want to check out vtol vr on steam. No need for a joystick, it's early access but it's somehow really amazing.

    So I just fired up my Vive for the first time in probably a few months, and I am getting constant stutter. Any ideas?

    Oh and the menu buttons don't seem to be working. Firmware is all up to date... which is surprising.

    Got a brand new phone and now am keen to try 'Keep Talking and Nobody Dies' on Google Daydream. Except 100 (including some games) is a steep price for technology that, according to EG, is dead...

    @neems I'm on a Rift there was some suggestions it was the video card drivers as it too had stutter.

    Turns out I had a big windows update waiting to install - might not have been the culprit, but it seems fine now though.

    On the other hand, MS have now fucked with all my windows settings. Thanks Bill! I'd better go check all the telemetry shit, make sure it's still turned off.

    Doom VFR persuaded me to drag my Vive out of retirement. (Doom VFR is currently 15 quid on Amazon UK with 2 quid off if you're a prime subscriber - I managed to pick it up for 12 quid, less the two pounds for the special offer, so just a tenner.)

    Phenomenal stuff. First VR game I've played where I was thoroughly engaged for a couple of hours in one session.

    Which brings me to my question - anybody using off-brand face cushions? The standard one soaks sweat up like a sponge. The official ones are 22 for two, which isn't heinous, but just wondering if anyone had found something better.

    Heh, interesting. I thought Doom VFR was a messy load of old bollocks that only got fun by the end. And then it was... y'know... the end. :-D

    I've made my peace with the face interface cushion. Kinda like my favourite tea mug: it has accretions that are uniquely mine. I don't invite many people to dive into VR as a result, however.

    Must admit I haven't checked reviews so I assumed it was generally beloved.

    I got to the free for all practice bit in the tutorial and must have spent half an hour on that alone. I thought I'd have difficulty with the teleporting controls (I'm using the Vive controllers with whatever the standard set-up is) but I guess playing Dishonored actually made me appreciate teleporting vs typical FPS controls. Probably the most fun I've had in any game for ages.

    Obligatory, I did nearly fall over twice so the sooner an affordable cordless headset comes along the better, but I'm kinda bullish on VR again.

    I've ordered a memory foam replacement cushion for stupid money (about 26.99, ASIN B075R1S963 if anyone else is interested) but at least it'll be easy to wipe down when I'm showing it to other people.

    Seems like Rift got a new dash if you enable the beta.
    Actually seems quite nice, ability to pin any windows window in VR no matter what game you are playing is something I want to check out when I get home.

    I don't know if they've hacked Robo Recall to work with the Vive, but that's pretty much a masterclass in teleporting, slowdown, and hand presence. Worth checking out if you've enjoyed Doom. :)

    Damn that's cheap! Sold mine - used, obv - for 400 only seven months ago (even got to keep the Xbone controller).

    If the Rift doesn't get a massive sales boost at this price, I can't see how it'll ever sell without a qualitative leap in hardware performance (resolution, FOV, genuine inside-out tracking etc.).

    And the Rift is the one with build in audio...
    Anyway, I'm pretty sure the next hardware wave or whatever you want to call it will be here in Q2 2018.

    I spent several hours playing Fallout 4 VR last night, and it was most enjoyable. The UI is a little awkward - you can tell it started life in 2d - but it works really well once you get into the swing of things.
