So what games does everybody and there granny seem to love but you just. don't. get. it? I was reminded of the first because it's sequel was reviewed today. Darksiders: Everybody seems to love this. I tried this twice. I abandoned it the first time and then later when tried it again since everybody seems to think it's the k9's testicular region, but no. Love the world, love the concept, love the artwork most of all, but the game? Dull, dull, and dull. The same boring grindy samey simple hack and slash template over and over and over and over. It's not that I have anything against hack and slash. God of War is fantastic and done right it's a exciting thrill ride, but the combat in this is just dull. Oh and the story is also pants. I gave up after the game locked me in a "room" again and charged me with killing x amount of baddies for the millionth time. It was stop playing of slit my wrists. GRID: yes, I know EVERY BODY and I do mean EVERYBODY loves it but again I just don't get it. The cars seem to float about the road, have no weight to them, and worst of all they seem to turn by pivoting in the centre!!! Also the "in your face" attitude of the game is sodding annoying. Can we please have a racing game that's not all about DUDE! THIS IS EXTREEEEEEM RACING!! WOW YOU ACED THIS LAP DUDE! And yes I am looking at you Dirt as the worst offender. So what games do you not get that everybody seems to love? Get it off your chest, it will make you feel better ![]() Edited by wobbly_Bob at 18:07:51 14-08-2012 |

Registered 13 years agoBraid. Bought it, thought 'meh'.
GTA IV. Loved 3, VC & SA. Enoyed 4 to begin with, but quickly got pissed off with it's shite checkpointing and the ropey controls. Gave up on a mission where you drive most of the city, collect someone, drive all to the other side, get in a fight at a boat yard. Chase someone in a boat and died. Time to go back through the driving etc again.
I repeated it twice before ditching the whole game before I frisbeed the disc, or threw my controller through the tv screen. I even booted up again a few months later, thought 'Oh yeah' and sold the game.
RDR was more enjoyable, with better checkpointing, but still the same control issues. LA Noire the same, but massively repetitive.
GTA V can suck my balls. I'm not buying it.

Didn't like the frankly embarrassing porn-like style of it all. Hate games where all you do is fight waves of identical enemies masked by 'stylish' hack and slash combat, usually followed by a 'spot the weakness' boss. Mind numbing, repetitive shite IMO. -

Borderlands. I understand it's good in co-op, but I just found it a boring grindfest. -

Whilst I don't fully agree with your comments I certainly feel this was overrated. I got it when it was sub £15 for 360 maybe 3-6 months after launch? I was having a bit of a hack and slash style love in after playing Darksiders, God of War PSP and Dante's Inferno. I really liked Dante's Inferno despite the criticism it received. Bayonetta though? There seemed to be this view that because it's got Sega branded on it it's suddenly great. I wasn't a fan of the "being batshit crazy 'cause we can" approach taken. The dialogue, the stuff I didn't skip through at least, was painful to sit through and I just didn't like the visual style. It wasn't a bad game but was very shiny 7/10 material for me.

My personal offering for this thread is Chrono Trigger on the DS. Granted my opinion may have been different if I'd played it the first time around on SNES but I just couldn't find any love for it. I think if it had been given similar treatment to the Dragon Quest games or Final Fantasy re-issues on DS I might have had more patience with it but in it's form on the DS. -

I wouldn't say I don't get it, I like it, but Skyrim has not blown me away as yet.

It is not a shit game just massively uninspired and bland. The game world probably looks good on paper but it is just so poorly realised. The production values are pretty good but the scripting is lame and the dialogue is unbelievably flat. It amounts to little more than "please help me, my daughter has been kidnapped!"... "OK...". It is like the world's best looking SNES game.

The Fallout series dump on it from a great height... -

This post in itself is more annoying than anyone who actually does that. People disregarding other peoples opinions. Funnily enough, not everyone on the internet is out to be a dick. It is actually possible to dislike popular games.

That said, Zelda is awful. Every iteration I have played has just been extremely boring, I do not get it in the slightest. I didn't grow up with it though, maybe that is a factor.

Anything online. Not that I've played much: some Uncharted co-op and deathmach, for the trophies. Some Unreal Tournament back in the day. Bleh. -

Metal Gear Solid. I've tried the first three games, and I really wanted to love them, but they're just so completely fucking tedious. IMO. -

It really holds no appeal, for some reason. Rich single player experiences are where it's at for me: the Fallouts, Oblivions, RDRs and Final Fantasies.
