New game from Sony Japan. Rain is an upcoming PSN title described as "a story of an invisible world revealed by Rain." It begins with a boy seeing a silhouette of a girl out in the rain. He goes out to investigate and discovers that he too is invisible in what appears to be a drab European city.

    Release date: 2nd October 2013

Looked interesting as a concept. Potential to be scary, and not in that stupid jumpy horror way.

New gameplay trailer. Looks really intriguing; I'm getting Ico vibes from the premise and the desolate atmosphere definitely seems like Limbo to me. Quirky games like this are the reason Sony is my favourite platform holder.

Did nt know about this one, I love quirky games like flower, journey and limbo, these days, for me at least a game has to have more than just being good to play, it has to have a style that makes I stand out, this looks like another one of those.

Not Sony Japan but the C.A.M.P. thing they set up. The other title created from it was that mad one with animals running around Tokyo.

Finally a release date for this :-) 10 quid would be an amazing price if it's not too short, so much atmosphere and emotion in this game.

A varied forecast, I think it's fair to say.

Tried this at the expo having been really looking forward to it. Unfortunately it utterly failed to impress, so I can't say the EG review surprises me in the slightest. It's just so... bland. And dated.

I've got no problem with the fixed camera angles at all - they can often be used very effectively to help frame the narrative or subtly draw the eye to important details. I put a few of my thoughts down on the Rain review on the front page, if you're interested.

Did anyone else try this at the expo? Would be interested in hearing thoughts from other people who've been hands-on with it.

I'm not sure why so many people on the net seem unhappy about this. The fixed camera has always been shown.

This is meant to be nothing more then a creative little title at a fraction of the price of a full title. Very little to complain about in my book. Worth a pick up at 10 I feel.

Are people actually complaining about the fixed camera? Strikes me as a rather odd thing to criticise. Perhaps if the game was more open and explorable, but it's largely prescribed where you are able to go and you're very heavily contained in largely linear corridors so I don't see why it's a problem personally. Besides, I think that given the sort of game it is that a fixed camera would help to enhance the atmosphere of it.

Never hurt Ico, and that actually was fairly open, at least in comparison to this.

I've seen a few comments here and there, but I don't see the camera as a problem personally. A lot of the time fixed cameras work well.

For 9.99 as well as a refreshingly original title from the rarely surfaced Japan Studios is worth it.

... after the Puppeteer review (6/10) from Eurogamer, I don't particularly care much for their words, much less the score they gave it.

Seems to me that short but sweet original games does not impress Eurogamer reviewers much!

I'd agree it is original in the sense of it being an original IP. I wouldn't agree, however, that it's core mechanics are particularly new despite the way they are presented. Admittedly my experience ends with the 10-15 minute demo from the expo, but already in that brief window it had introduced the core mehchanics of hiding out of sight (every stealth game ever), avoiding making noise (see before) and not leaving clues alerting enemies to your presence (see before). The conceit of a light partnership mechanic described later in the review has been well mined as well - Ico, Brothers, Lost Vikings, etc. From the EG review I was left with the impression that it never really moves beyond that.
If I'm sounding harsh, I don't intend to be as I'm grateful for something that at least shows intent to explore new ideas and tug gently at the corners of artistry. In that sense I think it can only be beneficial. But I don't, unfortunately, foresee it being remembered as a classic a few years from now, more a "remember that game...?" moment of reminiscence alongside the occasional name-check in games-as-art debates.
Nice bit of atmosphere work though, particularly with the sound. The sound is probably its strongest aspect in my opinion, particularly the perfect choice and implementation of music.

I did love Puppeteer, but this just doesn't look like much of anything. Like that Brothers game.
