Google finally admit to how shit flash is on mobiles and removed the plug in from the store. Wonder if the Android disciples will follow. Are we finally seeing the end? |

Registered 17 years agoShouldn't make a difference if it's already installed on ICS, it seems Adobe are only stopping Flash support from Jelly Bean onwards. It does still work on JB but there are issues, apparently.
This was actually announced ages back, and was already on the info page for the download on the store. -

Pooped his pants.
So, seriously, for just a moment, what is going to replace flash for video playback on mobile devices? MP4? Some google developed thing? Silverlight? -

It definitely seems possible to support within-browser video on mobile through HTML5. I don't know about Android, as I don't watch video on my phone, but on my iPad at least the Giant Bomb video player seems to just feed a stream to the iOS video player, which then plays happily enough. Only issue there, I guess, would be the lack of custom accoutrements on the player as (on GB at least) the player looks like the built-in one.

edit: Just tried it in Android Chrome and it makes a complete fucking hash of it as I don't have auto-rotate turned on.

It does, but there are differences of opinion on exactly what format that's supposed to be in.

Flash is/was a big pile of turd, especially on mobile, but at least it kind of worked. It will not be missed, provided a standard can be agreed upon.
