Yeah, that's been one of the bigger complaints I've seen. I don't see the point when you have a Games hub, and WPC's poll on the subject was hilariously one-sided. Hopefully they'll change it back, or at least give you the option to hide them.

Registered 10 years agoI voted against it. It's the sort of thing that would appeal to someone with 50 shortcuts on their desktop. -

Registered 8 years agoYeah, I did too. It's far neater to have them all under the hub, and if you absolutely must have immediate access to them, you can pin them to Start. It's an unnecessary feature IMO. -
I quite like it this way. In fact it annoyed me a little it wasn't this way before the update. Just a personal preference thing of course. I like having a list if every single thing that's on my phone.
That said, it should really be a toggleable option. Best of both worlds that way. -

Registered 12 years agoI've actually stuck all my games under a pinned folder now. I'd never bothered using folders before because it looked a bit pony but now it looks quite neat with the transparent tiles. There's also a Transparency Tiles app which generates said tiles for those apps currently with solid tiles.
I haven't used Cortana much tbh. Still loving the swipe keyboard!

Registered 10 years agoThink my phone is possessed (or underpowered). With Cortana, it sometimes picks up a phrase when I speak. You see the words appear on the screen "Set an alarm for five thirty", then Cortana processes it into "Set zone alarm Forfar for tea" or something similarly weird, wrong and useless.
I have the same general hit and miss approach during general phone use. I get the impression it starts doing something in the background, like checking emails, which takes all the processing time and stops the keyboard loading or tiles scrolling.
Lumia 620, by the way. -

That's happened because the Games Hub is no longer part of the OS, its a separate app. Microsoft have done it that way so they can update the app without having to update the OS and have it delayed/blocked by carriers. -

Registered 6 years agoOnly main issue I've got with the update is that WiFi Sense isn't set up for dual pay for/free access hotspots like BT.
Its good for free store WiFi but won't connect to BT hotspots, presumably because of the paid for option, but won't give you the option for adding in your account details if you get it for free (I'm a BT Broadband customer). -

Heh, it took me a day or two to adjust to that. It'd be silly for me to complain though, as I did so when they first moved it from there to under the ellipsis in WP8.

At least I think it was 8. Might have been 7.5. -

Ha I never even got 7.5 as my 720 wouldn't push the update to me :-/

Overall I like it and once I get used to that, and commas now being under the shift key, I'll be fine. -

Registered 8 years ago@Gambit1977 I think you'll probably be happy about it once you get used to it, as it gives you quicker access to your tabs.
I noticed that with the comma when I first updated the phone. There is a check-box to show it under the keyboard settings, but when I looked there it was greyed out. Yet for some reason, the comma came back anyway, so it might be worth you checking that out (settings>keyboard>advanced). -

Registered 4 years agoNoticed there are now seperate Xbox Music and Video apps, and read that the Music+Videos hub has been done away with in the 8.1 update.
Hmm, not sure how I feel about that tbh. Glad the above app stores* are being brought up to spec with their counterparts in Windows 8 and Xbox One, but the integrated 'hubs' - into which similar apps plugged into - was one of the things I liked about Windows Phone in the first place.
I assume Video purchases and rentals carry across devices?
*would be great if there was a 'Video pass' similar to the Music one -

If you switch the button to favourites in settings, it puts tabs back under the ellipsis menu.

Registered 8 years agoOne thing I'd like changed:
... let me add an option of enabling my 4G mobile internet onto the action centre please. I don't have any use for bluetooth so, it would be a welcome addition if I could customise the (four) action centre buttons to my preference.
My phone feels like a new one recently, even after owning it for eighteen months now!
Not that I have very many games, just wordie ones like AlphaJax, Wordament and the rather cool indie hit, 'King Oddball' however, listing the games within the games thingmabobbins was perfectly fine. Not sure why they felt the need to add each and every single one in the sidebar menu (?)
Oh well. -
You can change those 4, but only to a surprisingly small set. I switched out Bluetooth for Location. -

Registered 15 years agoI'm picking up a Lumia 1020 on Thursday from O2 to give Windows Phone another try.
Had a 920 - got annoyed with bad battery life (bought it on launch so it may well have improved) and then switched to an HTC One which is better, but the camera is ... MEH.
So, cheap deal I'll give it a try, if I still don't like it - it'll be up for grabs! -

Registered 12 years agoAnyone here uses a 1520? Thinking of upgrading from my 920 but the 930 has no microSD support (and no wireless charging but I could have lived with that). I'm a bit scared of its size so looking for user feedback. -
Right, I finally attempted to replace the broken screen of my Ativ S which has now resulted in a completely non-functioning screen.
What cheap replacement (with Micro SD capability) should I go for to tide me over until the next new wave? Was thinking a Lumia 520 or 620.
Any suggestions welcome. -
@Ignatius_Cheese If you want cheap then one of the two you mentioned. People seem very fond of the 520 so I would go for that one unless you absolutely need a FFC.
I'm sort of in the same position but I think the 1520 is future proof enough for me to make that purchase rather than wait for the next wave. I don't take that many pictures with my phone so I don't think I'll regret missing out on a 1020 successor.
