Had to go back to my 925...My god trying to create a playlist is a pain in the arse simply because if said playlist has any music I've ripped from a CD it wont show up on my phone.

Hmm... weird. My 930 just decided to launch the camera and continuously take pictures. It was sitting next to me and I watched it happen. I messed around with the shutter key and it didn't appear to be stuck, but it also wasn't responsive, so I turned the phone off, then back on, and it continued to happen.

I messed with the key again a bit and then held it down for a few seconds while it was recording a video and it stopped. And then started again when I put the phone down. And now I've managed to stop it again.

I *think* I might have just gummed the key up a little, as I cleaned the phone with a wet wipe earlier. Hopefully it's not anything else.

Oh, and it's just started again. The fuck.

Those dastardly finks! You mean to say they have my highly sensitive photos of what might possibly be a blurry sofa maybe?!

Personally, I think it was all the fault of a poltergeist.

Think I'll be leaving o2 as soon as I can.

Week tomorrow without a phone, no replacement given and cant even give a date of when I might get my phone back.

Still in warranty and I pay insurance and they cant just give me a replacement or even a loan phone? Fuck that and of course my 930 sim doesn't fit in my 925.

    What? That's ridiculous.

For all the complaints I might have about EE, when I had those issues with my 930, I called up and the guy said "Yep, sounds buggered, we'll send a new one out."

A new one arrived the next day, I think, at no cost, and I didn't have phone insurance.

Yep. Even asked if they could re activate my 925 sim[same phone number] but nope.

Service on a whole has been piss poor.

I hate EE but my dad recently had problems with an IPhone 6 and they had a new one out to him the very next day no problems. Have done all the time with him and he has a long history of damaging phones.

Yeah, that's pretty poor. Sounds like they don't even want to do the absolute bare minimum to sort out your issue - the least you could expect is an ETA on a new handset!

As for sticking a nano sim in an older phone, I tried that with an adaptor in my 920 and it wouldn't have it.

I had a hell of a lot of account issues with EE over the last few years. I called them up multiple times to sort it and every time they said "we'll put a note on the account to get that sorted for you". Every time. When I came to upgrade, that issue really screwed everything up, so I ended up cancelling the account entirely and opening a new one. At least I've had no problems since then (other than my dodgy handset)!

Yeah, I know, that's why I asked for the adaptor when I got the 930 with the nano - so I could switch phones if I needed to.

EE ask for £20 to unlock your phone and apparently not until you've been with them for 6 months. I was thinking of picking up a cheap 630 on EE which was the cheapest to bridge the gap until new phones are out but that's unfortunate.

Well just spoke to a nice lady at o2 who activated the old sim so I just have to reactivate my 930 sim when I get the phone back. :)

Has anyone given Win 10 for phones (or whatever the hell they're calling it) a go yet? I really don't like the look of the Start screen, so I haven't really looked into it too much more. I'm just watching a WPCentral video on it from last month to see what I've missed.

I was planning on doing the same, though I did run the 8.1 dev preview and was happy I did so. At the moment though, I'm thinking I might just stay on 8.1...

The Win 10 preview hasn't been rolled out officially for my old Lumia 925 so will wait a bit longer. Not going to try the beta on my main phone.

I'd like Win 10 to still hold my attention but I'm getting a bit peeved of having a second rate service from MS, especially when they update all their own MS brand apps for Android/IOS first and leave WP trailing behind.

Yeah, that's a good point - I'd try it on my old 920 rather than my 930.

I really don't like the look of the start screen and menu structure from the video I was watching last night, though. It loses most of the aesthetic stuff I like about WP.

All I can imagine is that they have different teams (and thus different timeframes) for software on other platforms. It is irritating though, for sure. I get that they need their software and services to be everywhere, but their own platform being last in line does grate. Maybe we'll see some changes with Win 10 moving to a universal app platform.

Tried the new Win 10 preview on my aged 520.

Do not recommend. It horribly broke it. I lost the Start Screen on the first attempt, on the second attempt it couldn't install any applications (including basic shit like the settings), on the third attempt it lost all data connectivity. Fourth attempt now before I hurl it binwards. Have a Galaxy S6 Edge coming next week anyway.

Fourth time the charm, it seems. It's slow as all hell, but I'm not surprised given my phone is the lowest of the low.

Yeah still just going to wait till the official release but then the new update isn't available for the 930 anyways.

What do you make of the way things look, Gremmoo? I wasn't a fan based on the video I watched, though that was a couple of months old.
  • Deleted user 11 April 2015 21:45:34
It's a mess, to be honest. Half of it looks like it's basically copying Android's Material Design, some of it doesn't scale the font for the screensize so looks ridiculously oversized (kind of like Win8 before 8.1), and every time you do anything new it comes up with a "HEY DO YOU LIKE IT GIVE US FEEDBACK" message that causes a couple of seconds pause (though again, my phone is garbage and low spec anyway).

There's also some really annoying stuff they need to work out (like how you can't select a background image until you've gone in to the Files app and let it actually cache what's on your device/onedrive), and because they've got legacy apps sitting next to new ones, there's just UI clash going on all over the place.

Cheers. I'm not surprised - I said a while back that I was considering sticking to 8.1, and that's because it just looked messy. I saw new list menus in some places and old list menus in others, and the new stuff looked very Android-styled. I really don't like the look of the Start Screen now either, I much prefer its look in 8.1.

I also read somewhere that any Windows device with a sub-8 inch screen would be getting the 'phone' build and wouldn't have access to the desktop. That will annoy the shit out of me - I've got a(n admittedly cheap) 7" Windows tablet that I use a lot, and I don't want gimped Windows on that.
