I've had nothing but trouble with Windows Phone 10 on my (admittedly older) Nokia 625. Updates keep disabling features like all data (wi-fi or mobile), it's slower in every way, none of the apps will install, the Store crashes if you look at it funny, the People App doesn't work as well as it used to, a lot of the old features don't work, it eats battery (around 5 times faster) and I'm pretty sure it's racist.

If it's just for the Xbox stuff then 8.1 will do you fine. The one thing I do like on WP10 more is the Xbox App though so I'd go for one that's listed as compatible with WP10.

Is there a global 'download all' button in Xbox Music, for pulling all music files onto the phone for offline playback?

Anyone have a 635? Considering picking one up. 70quid on ee( 20 quid credit)

I came off contract a year and a half ago and I have one of those £10 beauties that drug dealers buy en masse. It texts, and phones and that's about it. But as the football season as started anew I miss checking the scores and taking photos.

So I Been toying of having a smartphone again. I don't want to go contract again as I barely use 10 pound of credit in a month and a half and surprised to see the Nokia 635. Seems a lot of bang for your buck. It cheap and does a lot.

Half been toying with spending £300 on the better phones or 5c , and even 600 for the iPhone 6, but to be honest I don't think in general I will get that much use out of it, I don't really miss smartphones that much although they are useful at times. (Maps!) I don't really game on them ( mainly flight control) and I don't buy that many apps, but I do like the design and poking around the more expensive models.

The smartphone scene really has exploded since my s2 days and it's all a bit confusing.

I been reading up on the one plus two, but seems they are ridiculously hard to get hold off. I'm kind of put off by the size as well.

Not sure how easy the one plus one is to get either. ( perhaps should have posted the question in the general what phone should I get thread)

Hopefully W10 and this android stuff gives WP a nice boost in apps but it remains to be seen.

You can install Android apps right now if you want. It's not officially supported, but there's a PC thing that loads APKs onto W10 phones should you really want to.

I've not tried it out as I reverted back to WP8 as my phone clearly wasn't up to W10, but there are plenty of guides and things out there.

To be honest when I have had smartphones (iPhone 3 and s2) in the past, I was never one for apps. Twitter, Facebook web browsing and that was about it. I think. Even on my iPad mini I have fuck all apps for it. So I'm not overally fussed..yet... About the shortage of official apps.

So the 635 seems reasonable for what it is. Camera looks a bit shaky though..or rather lack of flash is a bit of a shitter.

Does anybody have any idea when they're going to officially announce the Lumia Cityman? From the rumours and leaks, it sounds like a lovely bit of kit.

Well I've opted for the lumia 635. Seems good for what I really want. £50 new. Can't ask for more.

So anyone had the experience of going from an iPhone (5) to an equivalent Windows phone? Recommended or bad idea?

    Bored with iOS...

I don't think being bored with iOS is the best reason in the world, but for what it's worth I still use iOS and Windows Phone on a regular basis and I like them both :) I quite like Live Tiles so I can have info right there on my opening menu, and all the Xbox integration stuff. I wouldn't say the music side of things is up to the same standard as iOS if that's the sort of thing that matter to you, though it still does the job.

I love my Microsoft Lumia 640XL. Puts most flagships to shame considering it costs £160. The camera is sublime, the screen is also. And the fluid OS is nice. The app store has moat apps but lacks in games, you cant beat the ios army of games. And let me put this mini review to bed, the battery life of this phone is fucking amazing. Just pure amaze balls. I've got this paired up to my Microsoft band and its fucking epic.

Only really use the music side to send tunes via bluetooth to my car on long journeys and i think that works with Windows Phone too. There's not many iOS apps i'll miss...Google authenticate? (though theres other versions out there)...Nike running...Google maps...HSBC banking...Lottery...BBC News...

Hmmm for £160ish quid i could just try one out and see what they're like i suppose.

@Buztafen you should. The 5.7" screen is nice.

I brought the 930 a little while ago, apart from the fact my Garmin doesn't sync I cant think of a bad thing about it

How about not being lumbered with a 2 year contract?
Reason why I came off contract in the first place. 32 quid a month I was paying, now I barely use 10 quid in a month and a half. Seems pay as you go with packs seems to be getting popular again judging by what I been reading over the last couple of days. For obvious reasons.

Hmmm 5.7inch (ooer) is quite big for my dainty girly hands so maybe the none XL 640 would be better? Though looking at the specs...no ac Wifi! What is this the dark ages?

Crikey the non XL still has a 5 inch screen. Are these phones for giants!

I have the 640 also. Quite good bit smashed the screen on one clumsy drunken night out

    I'm still using a 1020.

Fuckers haven't released a proper flagship for years.

The 930 looks more like it. Higher res screen, ac wifi, 32gb storage. But they're going for £300.

Yeah, the 930 is effectively still their top-end model, I think.

    Lovely phone, though.

It seems like it yeah, gets a touch confusing with the number and the name change from Nokia to MS.

Yeah, they went a bit stupid with the naming conventions over the last year or so, I've just lost track. I think MS is aiming to simplify that going forward. It helps that they're only going to have three or four models. Well, it should be less confusing, anyway.

I'm a long time Windows Phone fan and even I am bewildered at the dizzying array of devices!

They need 2 main models imo - 1) a compelling 'halo' consumer device that can do for WP what Galaxy did for Android, 2) a bells and whistles 'surface phone' for business with pen support, maybe integrated kickstand and optional keyboard cover.

Attractive, continuum-capable, Windows Hello-enabled, competitive spec phones, that encourage interest in the platform, perhaps mainly leaving midrange and budget to OEM's. Trying to bottom feed Windows Phone to relevance hasn't worked.

Amazon are selling an unlocked Lumia 630 for £50 today. Might be of interest to some people.
