My move back to the UK is imminent and I now need to find phone & internet. Can anyone recommend a decent comparison site or method of comparing providers - I can obviously see from Google plenty of comparison sites but as I haven't been in the UK for nearly 10 years I haven't a clue which ones I can trust. Or is it a case of each ISP will have an equal amount of customers claiming they are shit and an equal number very happy ? |

Registered 18 years agoCheck out Think Broadband. Has a comparison tool, but also (and more usefully) a very active forum for ISP discussion. -

Registered 18 years agoBroadband Choices is the other BB specific one. Otherwise, it's the usual suspects of Uswitch, Moneysupermarket and Go Compare etc. -

Registered 9 years ago@Dougs Cheers Dougs - I'll start with Think Broadband and these.
Surely whatever I get will be better than less than 2 Mbps that we have at the moment so being able to legally stream something from the likes of Netflix is going to be a novelty and I can stop "borrowing" films that take hours to download. -

Registered 17 years agoAny reason I shouldn't pull the trigger on PlusNet right now? Looking at their 40Mb Fibre Unlimited for £29.99 per month for 18 months...

Go Vodafone. Had great service so far. -

Registered 17 years agoThe line rental is included. It's actually £25/month at the moment for the 40Mb, the area I'm moving to doesn't support the 76Mb connections. -

Registered 19 years agoGot to give credit to HyperOptic.
Lucky enough to have an option to use them.
Last month I decided I needed to have a fixed IP address, called them up, they told me it'd cost an extra £5 a month until they roll out IPv6.
I agreed, less than an hour later, it was all sorted.
This weekend, my router has been having issues, dropping out around 10 times a day and rebooting.
Dropped them an email last night, around 9ish.
Got an email this morning saying I'll get a new one delivered tomorrow.
Great service. -

Just seems to lock up every so often and needs a reboot. I'm on 80meg but know I'm getting faster speeds. I do like that they have referrals so you can get money off each month -

Registered 17 years ago@crashVoodoo thanks for the heads up, good to know. I'll actually just be hard wiring their router into mine and disabling the wifi innit so hopefully won't be much of an issue.

Registered 18 years agoI think you can just use your own router. Sky are the only bastards that force you to use theirs, without shenanigans. -

Registered 15 years agoChin scratching about moving provider right now. Not sure if the issues I'm having are the line or the modem. Frequently losing connection, or restrictive, or slow.
Anyone else with Vodafone, how good are they at replacing the router if you just moan off? -

Registered 18 years agoGeneral impression seems to be that they are cheap...and for a reason. Seems they have capacity issues a lot of the time. -

Registered 15 years agoI should probably look to invest in an actual router rather than relying on them then, huh? -

Registered 14 years agoI'm with Plusnet and pay just shy of £40 including line rental for an 80mbs fibre download and 20mbs upload.
Haven't had any problems with them. I imagine I transfer a couple of terrabyte of data each month and they never say anything.
I also use a private vpn when I torrent as it masks what your doing meaning that you get full transfer speeds at all times. Only costs about 30 quid a year also -

Registered 16 years ago@Rivuzu recently switched to Vodafone from BT and all seems fine - same speed as before without the line rental charge and free calls to mobiles. By default they change your phone number so I had to call once all was activated and get that changed back - pretty straightforward. Oh and the router is better than my old homehub. -

I remember when I was living in london and got talktalk, they had a 25gb datacap which I breezed through in 1 day then carried on going while they charged an extra quid per gigabyte, never paid the bill and moved a couple of months later.

I have never been throttled or contacted by them and I download A LOT of data! In my opinion, yes they are truly unlimited.
^^ Me too. Are Plusnet truly unlimited?
EDIT: Although they do quote their "fair usage policy", which I guess leaves the option to cap if they want or need to.

Seems it's that time of the year and i need to look at this. I'm currently with BT and is okay aside from the old router isn't the best for Wi-Fi and i sometimes get slow downs on the broadband.
Options are EE, Talk Talk, plus net, Vodafone and BT. I can get deals on all of them aside from bt through quidco and some supposedly offer fibre up to 72mb. I'm currently on about 15 which is not great.
I've had plus net before and know they're good, but read they're routers are poor and my wifi coverage is not great already. Any recommendations? Fast, cheap, reliable, good WiFi and preferably parental controls.
Currently thinking of plus net fibre at £29.99 a month with £85 cashback...which i could put towards a router as i don't the old one I've got in the shed is all that these days.
Thanks -

Registered 19 years agoAsk people in your area which has the best service, it's pointless asking people on the internet as it's 100% down to local infrastructure.
Honestly, this should be in the title. -
Thanks. I was curious if any were avoidable like Talk Talk used to be due to crappy speed and reliability.
As for asking people, we've just moved and so I don't know anyone. I'll look at the websites mentioned above. -

There is only 2 in my city, Cox and AT&T. Both are shit, expensive and slow.
Cox is the lesser evil because I know the coup and managed to wrangle a pretty good deal, all things considered.
