At one month to madness it's the start of a new thread. I'll update the first post with names and links as people sign up, drop out, have breakdowns and feign death. Official website here: NaNoWriMo It's worth noting that the official site's buddy system is a bit strange. You both need to buddy up before you'll both see each other in your lists. The clock of doom here: Gaze upon me and despair You know you want to. I'll reactivate my writing blog once I get five minutes to myself. So possibly sometime mid-December. -

Registered 16 years agoI'm not allowed to join this year. I'll be making a push on the ongoing epic and embracing "shitty first draft" ethos of nano in order to bump up the word count. -

@Sunjumper what has happened to your Nano page? It throws me to the main page when I click on you there. -

Registered 14 years agoBloody hell. This sounds insane. A novel in a month???
I'm putting the finishing touches to my first novel at the moment and that's taken me a year. Admittedly it's 150k words and been completely rewritten, but still this seems near impossible...
I'm sort of tempted but very imtimidated :/
Has anything decent ever come out of NaNoWriMo? -

Registered 18 years agoNothing decent comes out of the first draft of a nano, but it's a good way to get a first draft done.
Editing of course takes substantially longer

50k is really a novella in a month and it is first draft, not polished washed and brushed final draft. It's more doable than you think and it is a wild a crazy ride. Don't be intimidated. Do it for the lols. The whole point is to chuck out all the 'I must write a MASTERPIECE or there's no point' stuff and just go hog crazy on a yarn.
The first time I tried it, I was convinced I'd be writing 'banana ping kablow' type nonsense just to keep up the word count, but I did manage to crack out a reasonably entertaining spaceship disaster. Entertained me if no-one else and fuck it, that's reason enough to NaNo right there =) -
I'm a "maybe". Full-time degree stuff and an actual writing career take up almost all of my time nowadays, but I'm writing so much at the moment another 1,600 or so a day isn't going to make much of an impact. Was thinking of doing 5 10,000 word stories, or possibly 10 5,000 word ones. Maybe even 100 500 word ones. Or 50,000 one word ones.

Registered 20 years agoThe NaNo website has made the switch for the next round and has a rather nice 'add a cover' feature now too.
Cosmic is now in the castle with Fish - possibly in a state of trepidation. Castle-dwellers, I will add websites, titles and descs to your list too as desired and supplied.
The maybes on the adventure list need not feel nervous about the mini barrels of barbecue sauce being given out. That's for the berries we'll pick along the way and by no means a flavoursome dip to aid the consumption of those who start and fall along the way... -

If you succeed, you can revel in literary glory.
And if you fall along the wayside during November, you'll make a tasty snack for the rest of us.

Good luck to those taking part. It's hard work but I really enjoyed this last year, it's a great challenge. Finding out I was pregnant a week in threw me a bit, but I'm still really proud of finishing the 50k,
and it was great fun reading everyone else's. -
I'll be in again. Never did do anything with my last one but it can't hurt making another attempt, can it? -
Yeah, I should be in, and have started planning.
But
My idea of writing an "interactive novel" is drifting towards biting-off-more-than-I-can-chew teratory. The flow chart of all the options/storylines is looking more and more like a massive scribble each day I add to it.
Gonna persist with the planning till the weekend then take stock.
