... the original Dooms have never looked as good as this!

Stumbled across it during a visit to SourceForge yesterday. A spanky Doom/Heretic/Hexen engine with all the graphics updated to more-modern standards. You can even download 3D models to replace all the sprites.

Just been playing Doom 2 now and it looks fabbo!

This is what I was playing aaaaaaaaaaages ago and pointed it out ;P

There's a very good conversion of Doom64 which uses this engine. Well worth a download for any fan.

Where's this Doom 64 conversion then? And how did Doom 64 differ from the PC versions of Doom?

    Doom 64: Absolution

Should have all the info there for you, plus a lovely download which only requires the addition of a Doom 2 WAD to run! \o/

I was hoping someone would do something like that \o/

BTW, blerk, just re-read my post and seemed like I was trying to piss on your chips there. Wasn't my intention at all and I do apologise if you got that impression.

That'll teach me to post when I've got a headache :(

Gosh! That looks really bloody nice!

Can the Doom3 engine handle the huge number of bad guys that the original Dooms used to throw at you in one go?

The engine probably yes, you'd just need a pretty good PC. :D

Doom 3 hasn't more than 5 or 6 baddies on screen at once, but the framerate doesn't take a hit, and the short outside trips demonstrate that it's certainly capable of handling larger areas as well. A 1:1 Doom 2 conversion, with the same huge levels and number of baddies would surprise me nonetheless, though.
