I've got to say I'm really pleased with the new forum. For those of us unable to F5 all day and take part in the "guess what this vaguely named thread is about" lottery, the categories are excellent and a real help.
The look and feel are close enough to the old forum to make me feel at home, and the Tag reference on the side of a reply ot new post should help out those who can't (or won't) link.

    Well done EG. :)

When I logged in here last night, it actually took me a moment to notice that anything had changed. It was the push-pin graphic that tipped me off.

It's a bit odd, because usually I hate change to stuff I'm used to using. The /ranting/ that goes on every time I have to find my way around new menu systems in Windows OS's and Paint Shop Pro. Seems like every new version they find somewhere new to hide functions, it drives me crazy.

Maybe it's because at work at the moment I've had to do so much interface relearning that I've developed some fortitude... or maybe it's the colour. Wait till they change the colour and see if I suddenly lose my ability to navigate and need to be fitted with an Ozzy Osbourne bleep machine.

Either that or the EG team have done a pretty damn good job not destroying the forum's overall verve.

Great work guys lots of improvement and above all, things have been sped up! It will take a short while getting used to it but it's definitely the right way to go.

I'm sure this have been mentioned on the early 6 pages, but I'll repeat it: any way for thread starters to change the thread category at a later time?

The time still isn't right. Is there a reason for it?

Don't know, it seems to always drift out of time, no matter what we do!

sorry but this looks beautiful. LOVE the shadows. i've always liked eurogamer for its quality of graphic design, and this just makes it better.

    I like you!

Probably not. I find it quite annoying when threads get moved and renamed too much, as it gets more difficult to find something you've already looked at. We wanted to keep recategorising and renaming just for when an actual mistake had been made... we should have enough mods to keep on top of this ourselves.

Fair enough, as long as the mods take care of things, we'll be fine!

I like the shadows too, btw. :)

I just wish there was a way to change the orange text colour (perhaps a choice of scheme), it's looked awful since the original rejig ages ago (even if it's not as bright now) but white background with orange text is just plain wrong.

Darker coloured text, like the PSP articles have, is so much easier on the eyes.

You need to yell at whoever sysadmins your server tell them to write a script that updates the system clock from a time server, there are plenty pre-written scripts out there, its not that hard!

Also you might to get them to upgrade Apache, Apache 1.3.26 is two and half years old. PHP is a few versions out as well, but thats not as bad, possibly due to Legacy code....

Id just like to say im happy with the new forum too, apart from having the Latest Comments/Files/Screenshots thing to the right, it seems to make the forum more cluttered...

Also when I post a message to a mutlipage topic like this, after I submit the message I get taken back to the first page of the topic, rather than the last as I'd sort of expected.

Just my thought, but otherwise keep up the good work.

The style sheet chooser extension for Firefox allows you to look at the forum as black and white, but there doesn't seem to be a way to switch it off (no default set?).

And you can't post new threads while it is activated. :/

Firstly I like the new look in the threads, but am not so keen on the main forum page, too much info now. Also, while the categories will become useful once they are gotten used to there are way too many, 5-10 should be more then sufficient. To have the forum filtered by way of a checkbox selection in your profile would be the way to go, the drop down selection is cumbersome and unwieldy. I also don’t like the way I have to select all before I can see the whole forum again, clicking on view all threads should surely do just that.

I also like to see the reply button being alongside quote and ignore and the post count should definitely be reintroduced to the profile, at the very least. A forum needs some form of seniority to help keep things in order. The wee symbols beside create new thread etc are fugly, as is the large sticky icon on the bottom of the page. Last page button is a boon.

The drop shadow is really nice and the subtle gradiation between posts is a real looker. Oh, and keep the orange, although an office friendly style would be a fantastic option. I like the thread locking idea, as long as it doesn’t turn into a mod tyranny.

Overall, good work and many thanks for putting so much time and effort into this refuge from work and the real world.

Can you re-classify threads after creation, as surely 90% of threads will become Spam and Junk within the first page of posts?

    Wah!
    What's happened?

What does the "pre" tag do? Does the "code" tag still work?

Surely we have enough seniority already, what with moderators and all. At the end of the day everyone comes here for the same reasons, people don't need help in thinking they're more important/better than others.

I like it. I really do. Other than the ignore poster link falling over the latest screenshots that is.

I do have to say that I genuinely am scared of this forum now, I'm actually hunched over now as I type this, trying to get a better view amongst all the clutter.

I think I´ve found a bug in the new forum (sorry if this has already been brought to your attention): when you try to reply to a locked thread, the forum goes haywire, and shows you a thread composed of posts from different times, dates and topics.

    Kinda Twillight Zone-y.

Right, I've done a screenshot of the layout error I see. You seem to have fixed the ignore poster one, but I still get this:
    here.

Edit: right on Q the ignore poster one appears:

    here.
