Registered 20 years agoIt will confuse a lot of Joe public buyers I reckon, Apple smartphones have half the screen size but will most likely be double the cost. Especially since these tablets are rumoured to have 3GPP/2 (IMT-2000) funtionality. I can imagine they'd be asking why the latest Apple smartphone is £550 and this 7" 3G tablet £200/300

Registered 18 years agoThe price will be interesting.
Latest iPod Touch is £249-£329.
Latest iPad is £399 and up.
Old iPad 2 is £329.
Nexus 7 is £200 16GB, soon to be 32GB for the same price.
You think something like £299 for Mini iPad ?
Obviously not going to get into a price war with Google. Premium as ever. Suppose they could do their usual and go release an 8GB version slightly cheaper. -

Registered 19 years agomy gut feeling is that this will be positioned against products like the Nook and Kindle HD - as a ebook reader that does other cool stuff, as opposed to positioning it as a cut-down iPad. Pricing will be important, but not as important as creating a clear reason to own one.
Also - no reason why Apple can't be competitive on price. The iPad is expensive, but arguably it's a premium product that justifies the price. It certainly doesn't stop people from buying them by the millions. -
Save money on an iPad mini by wearing really big gloves while using your existing iPad -

I thought the general consensus was that the iPad Mini (or whatever it'll be called) WON'T have 3G and just be WiFi?

Just daft to release a tablet without 3g capability so I hope not. -

So they're going to release something that is too small for browsing (an too large for mobile version of sites), is worse than the kindle as an ereader, isn't much of a size increase over a touch/iPhone for watching videos, harder to type on than the iPad and might be wifi only?
Sounds like a winner. -

Seems like a pointless product to me, but then again I said the same about the original iPad. -

At least the iPad only had various types of laptops to compete with.
I'm sure it'll sell well but I can't see any good reason that it should (ignoring the apple effect), unless its about £150. -

Erm, it's supposed to be 7 inch plus. The Kindle Fire and Nexus 7 have proved that there is clearly a market for this.

Put an iPod Touch next to a Nexus 7 and you'll see you're talking bollocks about the size issue. -
They've released sales figures for the nexus 7?
And 2 inches more isn't that important in terms of any improvement in user experience. -
@mrpon using my - on average - 4 inch screen phone to access the Internet on my 7 inch tablet is a bit excessive no? -

Registered 15 years ago@mowgli I get your point, I just don't see the need for multiple 3G devices when you can utilise an existing gadget. What with network operators now offering unlimited data allowances etc. -

Seems pretty expensive. Wouldn't it just be cheaper to get "CUNT" tattooed on your forehead and be done with it. Save you upgrading every year as well.
