Right, get your aprons on EG bakers, the official EG Gingerbread Xmas Challenge is now on. The Challenge Build a gingerbread structure of your choice. Take photos and post them in this thread for the rest to judge. Winner is crowned STAR EG BAKER. The Rules 1) Everyone welcome. 2) You can make your own gingerbread (preferable) or use prefab kits like this one - http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/90218783/ 3) Some have indicated that the strucure should be 100% edible, including any support structures. Not sure what the rest think, I'll edit this rule when we decide. Deadline Probably around mid-December or we could push it to Xmas day itself. Either way we'll give you enough time to plan the structure, create the design, get your baking bits in order, practice a few bakes etc etc. A Few Points Take photos along the way and keep the thread updated. This is about having fun - bake with family and friends, build together, share ![]() Links Ginger has provided a good starting point - http://www.kungfoodie.com/gingerbread-house-pattern/ (from the Great British Bake Off) Danni's Gingerbread Big Ben recipe - http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/gingerbread_big_ben_48685 James' Gingerbread barn - http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/gingerbread_house_81172 Current Entries sport elstoof thedaveeyres Rusty_M Rhythm smoothpete Ignatius_Cheese Vortex808 Ginger Aargh. Registered 13 years agoBoom. On the list. Now. My name.
I'm all for a 100% edible bake, considering a stick of rock is edible and probably strong enough to support any wacky design imaginable it isn't too big a stipulation. Probably easier to get hold of things like that rather than cutting metal rods or wood to size anyway. -

Registered 13 years agoJust a point that in the GBBO, Danni had a kitchen roll tube or something holding her clock tower up. So I think that for aiding support, anything goes.

Registered 12 years agoPersonally, I can't wait to see how Ignatius_Cheese's gingerbread shit turns out. Will it be artfully arranged in a gingerbread toilet? -

I might be in. Depends on how lazy I am. -

Agreed. Instead of bogroll tubes, use brandy snaps for internal support - they're dead easy to make too

Registered 13 years agoDepends, if it looks like the picture on the box then you're looking at a low score but using the mix as a time saver and shaping how you want is fine in my book. -

I was just thinking over the weekend that I'd better get my skates on and try making some gingerbread to see how it goes before the real thing starts!
