Registered 18 years agoFixed my Nexus 4 after my son splashed water on it.
The microphone and earpiece died. 24HRS in uncooked rice sorted that problem.
Wasn't that much water to begin with though. Just in very unfortunate places I guess. -

Registered 12 years agoSorry, don't think I was that clear. It was working fine, just the unlock button the right wouldn't work. I've been using it for about a month afterwards absolutely fine (with differing unlock methods).
The problem now is that the button doesn't work, so once the phone battery ran out I can't turn it on because the button is broken. The phone is fully charged (it indicates so when I plug it in) so it was more of a question is there any other way to turn the phone on, without the button?
The battery is fine, the phone works fine. It's just the unlock button (and its connection) that it appears it's broken. -

Registered 15 years agoSounds like the water may have corroded the connection inside I'm afraid. Take it to a repair shop? -

It'll never happen ... not with the Nexus 4.

Maybe the next (new) one shall offer 16 and 32GB respectively.
Think the 'Pure Google' versions of HTC One and Galaxy S 4 will be up on Google Play store soon! -

If I stick with Android for my next upgrade; it will definitely be a "pure Google" model. -
Got my tweak on ...

Registered 18 years agoI decided to free up some space on my phne last night. Used ES File Explorer to move all movies I've shot to my NAS.
So bloody hassle free. I'll never get a phone without a decent file manager again. I even created the folder I moved my films to using ES. It's like a proper "finder". -
A pure HTC One sounds like a good idea. Basically better than a Nexus 4 from a technical point of view, just price difference. -

It might be worth checking out the reviews because I believe the rumours were that most of the really good camera features were lost due to the stock camera app not supporting them.

Fun fact: The pre-release Google Play edition phones we’re using have new camera and gallery apps (the former is actually part of the latter) that aren’t even available on the Nexus devices as of this writing. As we’ve previously noted, the options and settings menus have revamped into a half-moon instead of radial dial — a good change, by all accounts — and the animations have improved. The phone’s volume button also works as a shutter button.
Edited by crashVoodoo at 09:25:32 04-07-2013
Google’s camera app isn’t anywhere near as full-featured as Samsung’s or HTC’s (though it’s much cleaner; HTC’s is still a mess of menus). It’s nice to get Photospheres — those psuedo-360-degree panoramas — on more devices. But we’re not convinced that makes up for everything you lose. Zoes and Video Highlights — two standout features of the HTC One — are gone. Google’s camera doesn’t have burst mode, and, no, repeatedly pressing the shutter button doesn’t make up for that, either -

That's one thing I miss on my Nexus 4.
Don't like taking a phone by tapping the screen and depending on the angle it can be awkard to do.
That and decent sounds/volume management. -

Registered 18 years agoMaybe it's just me, but it has been know to happen (more times than it really should) that I wake my youngest by watching YouTube, thinking that I've muted the sound whilst I only muted the voulme of the call signal.
I know they used to have three sliders
Call signal
Voice volume
Media volume
Wonder why they scrapped that? -

Registered 17 years agoThey haven't. Go to settings, sounds and press volumes at the top
There's one for Music, video, games & other media; one for Ringtone & notifications and one for alarms.
(oh, in-call is separate, too. Plus there's separate volumes for different connections - headphone socket, bluetooth audio etc - which only appear when connected I think)

Added shortcut to one of the homescreens. Would be nice if those sliders showed up on volumerocker press but can see why they don't. Would ALSO be nice if there was a shortcut to that setting spanel from the settingshortcuts area in the notification center.
Roll on Key Lime Pie... (that might not actually do anything about this) -
Since we're sharing.

Depends on your launcher. On Nova Launcher you long press the screen to add stuff, pick Shortcuts, scroll down to the Settings app, then you get sub shortcuts - you can pick sound from that.
Cheers!

Failing that you might be able to find a volume control slider widget... -

Registered 16 years agoIs anyone else having problems with video playback on their Nexus 4? I'm just using the stock Android (4.2.2) and Youtube regularly won't start playback of videos, and often crashes.
Other videos (e.g. on sites that I visit alone in bed at night) also have problems with the video refusing to play.
Everything worked fine until recently. -

Registered 17 years agoI'm still not clear on whether the Nexus manages all games and media volume as per that slider or on an app per app basis.
It seems like every time I open the Star Wars pinball app for example, it starts with the volume set to 50%.
I'll keep an eye on it now. Maybe there's other apps or video in between where I had volume up. -

Registered 17 years agoThat slider. If you change it in one app it changes it for all apps.
The volume control is effectively attached to the stream.
The exception to this would be if the game or application has its own volume control - you have a volume setting when you play audio through streams or whatever within apps, so playing at 50% volume is effectively 50% of whatever the currently selected volume is, not 50% of "loudest".
...so, that global slider sets the media / game max volume, then in-app there can be a slider within a slider. Slideception. Sometimes the button can affect that. Not confusing much, eh? -
Clear as mud! .gif)
As we're talking screens here.
I've got a main screen and I can flick left for additional apps I use regularly (or though I was going to use regularly when I set it up).
It's so tempting to tinker with this stuff. Before you know it an hour's gone by.
