Can anyone recommend a top notch gaming PC for upto £1000.. the family are all chipping in to treat the old man for his 60th birthday, basically he loves games and he's never been able to afford a decent system. He will never play online so that's not a consideration. Want a system that's sold as a package not one where we buy the bits separately and the more future proofed the better. He likes games like Starcraft 2, XCom, Bioshock and the smoother the frame rate the better ![]() Would like a decent screen included in the package, obviously if something decent can be had for less than 1000 then even better. MrTom sez: posting your phone number for all to see on the Internet is an incredibly stupid thing to do. You're welcome.

Thank you MrTomFTW...everything else is so easily accessible, I didn't think! My braincell had gone off for a cup of tea and a choccy biscuit!

Registered 13 years agoI can tell you the specs of my pc that I built about a month ago if you want. It cost about a grand (including monitor) and runs pretty much everything at ~60 fps, max detail @1080p -

Registered 12 years agoWhy SLI? I don't see any reason why he has to go down that route. You can get a lovely machine with a single graphics card that'll play on the latest and greatest without SLI.
I'd only mention noise as a factor. He might want some of that money spent on a decent case or cooling options so he can hear the game as well as play it. -

I'm in the same boat, although with a little less money. I've got £850 and I want to get back into PC gaming. I used to know lots about PC hardware and specs but that was a long time ago when I had a 1.4G processor and a 64Meg graphics card. These days I don't know squat.
My question is, should I bother with a monitor as I have a 32" TV with HDMI in @ 1080p. Would it be a mistake to get a 660Ti when only using a 1080p TV.
Also is a i7 overkill or is the i5 struggling these days.
I want to play Arma, Warthunder, Silent Hunter 5, and a bit of 64 player Battlefield.
I'm thinking of getting this, Chillblast PC
