Old Obi Wan would just emo quit in the middle of the fight.

I'm really surprised by how negatively some people have reacted to this news. The prequel movies were, without question, some of the worst movies ever made, they destroyed the Star Wars universe and I say that as someone with little nostalgia for the originals.

George Lucas can definitely come up with some good ideas, but he's a terrible film maker. Pushing him to the side, only having him there as a creative consultant is exactly what should have happened after Episode 1. It's the same role he serves on the Clone Wars animated series too and that for the most part is a pretty good kids show, with a lot of dark and mature themes.

Letting someone else take over is exactly what this franchise needs. No matter what happens, these movies will be better than Episodes 1 and 2. Maybe they can even bring some of the dignity back to the franchise.

Star Wars Episode 7: Triple Extreme Starplosion Revenge Force

Directed by Michael Bay starring Nicolas Cage as Luke Skywalker, Samuel L. Jackson as Han Solo and Megan Fox as Princess Leia!

    3 times the deaths stars!
    3 times less golden bikini
6 times more up skirt camera!

Fact: my kids prefer the Clone wars and episode 1 and 2. As in the one with the pod racing and the one after.

I don't think that this perceived massive gap in quality is everyone's view sadly.

I think most people would just have preferred Star Wars to be left to die...
I certainly wasn't waiting for an episode 7 and I loved the OT...I also liked some bits of the PT...

I remember way back when there was a story that 'obi' was actually a clone war remnant indicating "old ben 1" and thus that he was a clone...Point is, episode 7 will probably be based on nothing written or disclosed so far...

The original series was about story and character, the prequels were about special effects and CGI set-pieces.

They really weren't. Seeing these in the cinema at the time was jaw dropping for effects.

The story is as basic as can be. Our adult minds have filled in the blanks in the intervening years.

Ok they had interesting characters in a basic plot with snazzy fx. thats more than the prequels.

I really hope the new ones are decent but i'm not expecting much.

The best description of why the PT suck is when that guy in Redletter media asks people to describe a character from them without using their name, clothes or profession.

    Think about it.

    OT
Han Solo, ruffian with a heart of gold and fox behind his ear.
Leia Tough woman with skin on her nose
C3PO Annoying Mr Know it all and general pain in the ass

    PT
    .....
    ....
    ...
I guess JarJar is the only one with a personality and some character traits.

The Lego Star Wars games are definitely the best way to experience the prequel trilogy. The acting is better for a start.

See, this is what has happened. The prequels are so shit that people think the originals weren't very good after all and they've been imagining it for all these years.

I contunally find this sort of comment insulting. As adults (and film buffs) we're unable to decern whats good and whats bad because we enjoyed them as kids??! It's bullshit. For starters, as 8 year olds we enjoyed the films for the same reasons that some kids enjoy the PT - at a superficial level - because they're ONLY FUCKING EIGHT.

As you grow up you start to appreciate other aspects of films, both new and old. We can now see that the OT were brillant films. Stuff I also used to like when I was 8 such a Godzilla and Sinbad etc are fucking crap!! These kids that currently like the PT could well grow up and think they're shit.

In short, I can tell the difference as a grown up between a good film I used to love and a bad film I used to love. Jeez.

I think if I was a teenager and getting high and trying to find deeper meaning in the PT without having done so for the OT then I would possibly think the PT on a par.

@shamblemonkee I would watch a Nicolas cage lukeskywalker. Samuel Jackson would be Lando Calrisian with ShiteLaBouef as the newer crapper han solo.

    Bravo.

    They are indeed utter shat

I don't know what to make of the news to be honest. Could be alright I suppose (Thinking of Snow white), or it could be an absolutely tragic bumfest (Thinking of everything else)

The Plinkett reviews are indeed great and should be watched in their entirety. Unfortunately, they've become so popular and so cited that proponents of the PT just roll their eyes every time they're mentioned.

....doesn't make them any less bang on though.

The things about the prequels was that they forced (no pun intended) so many Star Wars fans into a period of intense denial.

I watched the Phantom Menace at the cinema and practically convinced myself that I enjoyed it. I guess I couldn't believe how shit it was after such enormous anticipation. I actually feel quite embarrassed about it in retrospect.

In true Spaced fashion "It still hurts", and I'll take this news with a massive dose of cynicism to preserve my dignity in the future.

It's hard to get people to watch them too, as not many of friends care as much as I try and force them to care.

Watching a review that's as long as the film it's reviewing is to much for them.

I would love them to make Timonthy Zahns Thrawn trilogy into the next 3 films but I think it is highly unlikley.
