Probably worth looking up what films Disney have produced, no?
Disney said it planned to release new film Star Wars Episode 7 in 2015.
They should just start at Episode I again, pretend it never happened.
That will be followed by Episodes 8 and 9 and then one new movie every two or three years, the company said.
Disney though? I mean, I know Star Wars is essentially a kids film that appeals to a broader range, but Disney, gah. -

Registered 18 years agoGet good writers, directors etc.on this now. I imagine quite a few would love to really have a good go at Star Wars without all the baggage and Lucas.
First of all, get rid of the all the yes men who rode along with Lucas. -
DPS was under the Buena Vista/Touchstone label. You might as well argue that Con Air is a Disney production if you're going down that route. There's a big difference between a movie produced by a label they own and a movie produced under the Walt Disney name itself. -

Registered 19 years agoBest news for Star Wars in a long time. New movies will be fine as long as they get the right talent involved, there's a lot of good stuff that's been written for the post-Luke Skywalker era.
Hopefully also a re-release of the original trilogy without the shitty Lucas additions. -

Haha!

On another note, they would be better off rebooting the franchise and bring some continuity to the series. The best three films look a little dated by today's standards, as they were filmed in the (late) 70's. -

Registered 17 years agoThrawn trilogy or get the fuck out. Or they could base it in a different era and make a largely unconnected but still familiar story, a la Knights of the Old Republic.
I don't hold much hope but it's not like the franchise can get a lot worse, can it?

Registered 13 years agoDisney won't make a good Star Wars movie because that's not their main objective with this acquisition. It's all about the merchandising for them and they've just found their way into Aladdin's cave.
I expect Ep 7 to be just as 'good' as Eps 1-3. -

Given Disney's track record with games, I can presume it'll just go back to movie tie-ins for the 3DS/Wii with a couple of Just Dance: Star Wars titles.
Hopefully this might also free up the clamps on Star Wars games development.
And the aforementioned Jar-Jar and R2 cropping up in Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Triple Dash Rainbow Darklord Arse.

Registered 18 years agoStill going to be aimed at kids I imagine. Merchandise and all that as well. Lucasfilm will still be full of hacks as well as Disney. Wait and see what they come up with. -

Apparently Paramount have some fingers in the franchise and not really worth much to Disney or the bother right now. Probably canned. It is Harrison Ford after all, I don't think they have anywhere to go with it and certainly not with Shia. Might as well let it die.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if they discarded the expanded universe entirely and did their own thing, making it less Epic Sci-Fi Fantasy and more Space Pirates of the Caribbean -

Registered 19 years agoApparently no Indiana Jones films planned, too many issues with Paramount and merchandising.
Joss Whedon to direct a Star Wars film, how terrific would that be? -
As much I loved the original films growing up, and have watched each one more times than I care to admit, the reality is that they are filled with continuity errors that can only be fixed by remaking 4,5,6 to the same qualities as 1,2,3.
Anyone that has an eye for great production quality will have overcome the initial shattering of the legend they what for, and now see episodes 1,2, 3 as exceptional production quality family films that are great fun to watch and find something new every time(just like the originals).
Hopefully Disney will by-pass the problems from 4,5,6 and make new versions of the films, rather than inherit (loveable)flaws and try spin 7,8,9 with a bobbin that had all its thread used in episode 6.
For people still blindly believing 4,5,6 are superior to 1,2,3. I won't trash those historically great films. But do yourself a favour and watch all of them in numerical order(1,2,3,4,5, 6) or release order (4,5,6, 1,2,3) on blu-ray and you'll have to try hard to deny what you are seeing to keep that view (imho). -

Registered 14 years agoHmm they got Lucasarts as part of the deal if i'm reading Disney's statement correct. I hold a slim hope Disney have a better clue of what to do with the Lucasart's back catalogue than Lucas.
Monkey Island/Pirates of the Caribbean cross over anyone?
I can't see Disney doing much more harm to the Star Wars franchise than Lucas has. Maybe something good will come of it even if its just to some cool new Star Wars themed rides at the Disney's theme parks. -
