Playstation Plus is a subscription service available for a whole year (£39.99) or 90 days (£11.99). During your subscription, you will get access to games at exclusive discounts and even games for nothing (Instant Game Collection or IGC). Games you get for nothing will be available for you to play while you're a subscriber while games bought with a discount can be played before or after your subscription expires. As part of the subscription, you also get access to 1GB of cloud storage and an automated update service so you get the latest patches as they're released (TBC). How does this work? Two games are available for an extended period of time while two other games will rotate on a monthly basis. As of November 2012, the games available for an extended period of time are Uncharted: Golden Abyss and Gravity Rush (Note: US contents will vary). Hold on, if I have a PS3, does that mean... Playstation Plus is active on your account for both Vita and PS3 for a single price. You get the full IGC, cloud storage etc for the PS3 as well. Note on Cloud Storage: You get 1GB for PS3 and 1GB for Vita. How do I grab the "£0.00" cost games? Simply add it to your basket and checkout. Once "purchased", the game will be on your download list and can be downloaded/played for as long as you're a member. Can I grab games that were previously on the IGC? Only if you "purchased" them beforehand. Otherwise, you won't be able to get them (though a discount may be available later on). What firmware version do I need to be on? Firmware Version 2.0 will be required for Playstation Plus. Edited by HiddenAway at 20:18:00 25-09-2013 |

Registered 17 years agoIf you read the comments on the blog there are some very interesting comments from the moderators:
-They are actively staying away from adding any of the 20% off games to the Plus rotation for the foreseeable future in order not to anger people who buy them in the sale.
-They are looking into getting Jet Set Radio for PS Plus in Europe.
Little Big Planet looks awfully much like a prime candidate for future Plus headliner of the month. So much that I'm scared to buy it even though it really tempts me. -

Registered 13 years agoDoes anyone know if game saves from physical versions of the game will work with the download version of the game? Hopefully they can, so I can sell my copy of Gravity Rush and download the Plus freebie.
I know this does not work with all PS3 games (it didn't work with my LBP2 game save when it was a Plus freebie) so was wondering if anyone knows about Vita games. -

On that - I'd strongly recommend Mutant Blobs Attack - I loved it. Great 2D platformer! -
@Jmog
Buy LBP it is splendid , yes you can save yourself £25 but it is worth it and more. So think of it as thanking Tarsier for such a great game. -

I have a few questions about Playstation Plus. (Never used it on PS3).
As it is a subscription service am I correct in thinking that you will need a Wifi / 3G connection to play the free games during the subscription period? (Essentially so that Sony can confirm you are actually a member).
I have a Wifi connection at home. So downloading the game is fine but without the 3G model it will therefore mean I could only play the games when at home (or at work) where there is Wifi available. -

No, you only need the network connection when you download the games.
So theoretically if you only went online once you could keep the games after the sub ends. -
@Jmog
That won't work. When you download a ps plus game it has a license expiry which is the same as your plus expiry. If you renew plus then it will fetch a new license, if you don't renew then will be unplayable. -

Registered 16 years agoIn the last couple of weeks I have discovered I will be getting a Vita for Xmas. Since the PS Plus announcement I've went from 'ARRRRGH more money for games' to 'Yassss, never need to fork out for games.'
Just make Sony Smash Bros Cross-Play the Dec PS+ game and we're well and truly being spoiled by the Ambassador. -

Registered 15 years ago@GeezaTap I really doubt Battle Royale will be on the IGC next month. IGC games tend to be old with upcoming sequels or games with DLC incoming. -

I'll be honest, the IGC is going to be a list of games that aren't Everybody's Golf. I loved the PS3 one to the point of needing an intervention. -

Registered 14 years agoSo then if I buy a 1 year subscription to Playstation Plus and download a free game I will have access to that game for 1 year. Even if the Vita is not connected to Wifi / 3G in that year?
Is the Vita's clock actually that good?
(My offline 360's clock now resets to its manufacture date everytime I turn it on).
With my job I could easily be away from a Wifi connection for 6 months. So I do not want to pay for a subscription that will not work.
I am also not sure Sony would allow a system that could potentially be exploited by tinkering with the clock. -

It's hard to say. Having just tinkered with my PS3's date, it looks like the expiration dates on games are unaffected (i.e. It was telling me I had 209 days left on something, I changed the system date back by a year and still had 209 days lef), which probably means the system just keeps track of how much time you have left until your license expires, not trying to faff about with dates and such.
The real question is what happens when the internal battery which keeps the clock system up and running continously, even when there's no other power, fails, as it inevitably has failed in ever piece of equipment I've ever owned. Maybe there are systems which can keep track of the passage of time, even when there's absolutely no power?

@PazJohnMitch
As some of the game have a limited time as part of the collection, your biggest problem will be, if you can't access Wifi for 6 months, you won't be able to download everything they offer.
Can't remember the exact times, but sure there is a game of the month and a couple of others that will change every 8 weeks.
