They might end up having to buy back their 2080ti when they can't get hold of a 3090.

    I wonder if Roguey is still F5ing Nvidia.com 🤣

3080 is miles faster than any of the cards I have now but I might wait until the second round of cards to appear, that or try and nab an EVGA card from somewhere. The FE card is out for me because of the 12-pin thing and the location of the plug on the card, it would totally fuck up the aesthetics and make my tidy cabling look...untidy.

Seems to match up roughly with what those Digital Foundry results were.

edit: on the 12 pin cable, what brand power supply do you have? Corsair just confirmed that they're going to do a 'proper' 12 pin cable for their modular PSUs and I can see more announcements coming.

@captbirdseye that data is slightly surprising.

24% diff between and 2080 Ti and 3080. So if the 3070 is genuinely faster than a 2080Ti there might only be a 20% difference between the cards?

If true, I think the 3070 will be the one for me.

Corsair and EVGA have announced they will sell proper 12 pin cables not long after launch.

The only EVGA card on launch is the ICX one. The FTW is a bit after launch but expect price gouging on the FTW.

@muddyyfunster If you are not interesting in DLSS, RTX and run games at 1440p it looks like a second hand 2080ti in the £400 bracket is a bargain. Less power consumption and more vram.

I'm getting the feeling that AMD might have something special with Big Navi. The more I read about 3000 series the more it feels rushed.

I mean things have changed insofar that ray tracing performance has to be considered now, what with the consoles having the new shiny things. I reckon the high-end AMD part will shock a few people with its rasterisation performance but yeah, no DLSS and worse RT perf so...

For me, I'm not interested in RTX or DLSS as play games at 1440p because of how expensive 4k 120mhz monitors are. These seem like a nice upgrade for those things but for raw FPS jumps it's not the megaton Nvidia marketing suggests hehe.

Maybe not for 2080ti owners but for those of us who rejected Nvidia's overpriced card the 3080 is a nice upgrade from 1080ti. The price seems reasonable.

1080ti is still a power house card that has no trouble with the majority of games at 1440p and that card is like 3 years old now.

For little old me on a lowly 980ti, I'm hoping the 3080 is quite a bump. I could get a second hand 2080ti but if I'm paying all this I want the new shiney with warranty and hasn't been OC'd to buggery

Yeah, I can't quite believe I've made it four and a half years from getting my 980Ti without upgrading. So I'm quite excited for the bump - just need to decide if the rest of the system needs a refresh too.

Given the likely scarcity, and the fact the new conslols are around the corner, I'm eyeing up an Easter 2021 timeframe for an upgrade. Prices and availability should've normalised, and the drivers will be solid. Exciting!

First TI version is coming in October from AiB - 3060TI. I wouldn't bet against a 3080TI before the end of the year.

Nah, it looks like orders genuinely do open at 2PM UK time on the 24th. I'll know in advance by what happens with the 3080 when it launches on the 17th.

Come 1:55PM on the 24th, you can absolutely bet I'll be hammering F5 like crazy, though.

Yup that'll be me on the 17th and in another window I'll be trying to get a zotac.

I'm still in two minds about waiting until closer to Cyberpunk release before buying, since that's the main thing I'm upgrading for. Will give AMD a chance to play their cards, and if a 3080ti is going to happen this year we'll know by then...

Plus the 12 pin adapters look like shit, so I'd prefer to get a proper full cable replacement too if I'm going with FE.

Well I installed some more cables for the new card. There was one 7-pin pig tail to 2x6+2 pin, which looking at the 12-pin adaptors wouldn't have been enough for whatever reason. I mean, it powered a Radeon VII well enough, perhaps the situation is about to be reversed with AMD having the perf/watt advantage. Strange times.

My 2070S is looking like a poor choice, I'm not leaking money so I may well live with it until the 4000 series. :S

One thing about these cards is that you certainly won't need to put the heating on this winter. 3000 series with those hot hot Intel chips, toasty!

Really tempted to upgrade, but would have to at least upgrade some other components in my setup first to make the upgrade worthwhile. I have a 1070 at the moment, which is brilliant for 1080p gaming. I want to (don't need to technically but still) upgrade my M2 NVME from a 256gb to a 2tb, would like to upgrade from 16 to 32 gb RAM, would absolutely need to upgrade my PSU from 500w to 750w and finally upgrade my TV to a 4k model to actually take advantage of the shiny shiny. Unfortunately, now I am looking at in excess of £1200 to upgrade.

It's not that bad and certainly better looking than every AiB. The cards are ridiculously oversized. I saw an image yesterday of the Gigabyte card without fans etc and the majority of the space was taken up by the bloody power connectors.

It's not better, though. I mean LOOK AT THE BLOODY DONGLE just hanging there. With my case there is no way to get that looking tidy even with a dedicated modular 12-pin cable.

GPUs are getting bigger than ever, with RAM, processors, fans, heatsinks all in a case. They're like little PCs within a PC. How long until we get 'modular' GPUs where you get to choose, swap, and upgrade the various components? A sort of GPU motherboard that you fit out with components as you see fit?

I'm not that bothered about asthetics and more concerned with keeping my system quiet hence my obsession with fugly Noctua hehe. I think proper cables should tidy it up a bit but I've wondered whether it could cause problems with fans on air coolers.

My 1080Ti is still strolling all games at max settings 1440p at 60HZ

Just donít feel the need to upgrade as it would be pointless.

Would like to have a 3080 though but will resist lol

Will spend the coin on a decent monitor instead the one Iím after is over a grand

I'm kind of torn between on the one hand knowing my Vega 64 is still doing more than alright for my screen (3440x1440 freesync 75hz), but on the other getting twitchy about potentially missing out on a FE 3080...

It doesn't really make sense. Still want one though...
