    Ta. I went for the Corsair 450, cheap and looks good value and is 100W higher than the current one.

    Next time I will remember to unplug the PCs before I switch the mains off. There is always a voltage surge, and I should know better than to leave sensitive stuff plugged in when doing this sort of stuff.

    @neilka

    Can you just buy me one next time and I'll pay you back? You seem like a trustworthy kinda fella. Maybe get a handful for the forum whilst you're there.

    I see the layout of the Nvidia store has changed considerably since last week. Wonder if this is part of the anti-bot stuff they were talking about earlier in the week?

    Guess I'll know later. I'll be hammering F5 from 1:55PM.

    Is somebody going out for 3080s? I'll have one.

    Good luck!

    Following the OcUK forum for 3080 orders, the community has set up a script to estimate where you are in the queue based on order time and which card you ordered. It's all crowd-sourced. Anyway, my point is basically that unless you get an order in within about 15 minutes of them going on sale, you're going to be waiting weeks at best and probably more likely months.

    Well nvidia confirmed that the 3090 is 10-15% faster at 4K, so fuck that.
    Ended up ordering an EVGA 3080 locally here in Belgium, will probably be a couple of weeks though.

    This is going to sound really stupid but what's the best way to build a PC in stages?

    Is it to get a case, mobo, SSD, CPU, RAM and cooling first then the GFX card of choice?

    I have a Geforce GTX 660 sitting in my current build which I assume will work with a new mobo but I don't think anything else will.

    Pretty much everything else is 10 years old now.

    Oh hell no, it's a pre-order, but we have like two big computer chains over here, Alternate and Tones.be, and Tones only distributes MSI and Asus cards, so went with Alternate.
    I chose EVGA FTW3 because it seems like a good overclocker, and also read some tweets from EVGA claiming they'll have thousands of cards starting next week. It's a gamble anyway, I'm going to try and not refresh my email inbox every 30 minutes.

    @General_Martok I'd guess you need mobo, cpu, ram to get something up and running. That's using your case, gfx card and sata hard drives, the maybe is your psu might not be suitable.

    @KD

    Thanks! I hadn't thought about the PSU! Better check that.

    @General_Martok I'm thinking the same at the moment. I think the sequence for me is going to be case & PSU, the MOBO & CPU,I can use the RAM, SSD & GPU from my current build until I can update them one at a time. Then starting adding in extra SSDs just for fun. Want to wait to see what the new standard NVME drives are priced at first and how that might affect console games on PC.

    Zero chance of getting a 3090FE - it instantly flipped from "coming soon" to "out of stock", just as the 3080FE did. Think I managed to get in (very) quick at Overclockers for my second choice, the non-OCed Pallit card... had an "order confirmed" screen and everything. But no confirmation e-mail yet and their site just went down so I can't check my order history. Plus, no way of knowing whether they actually have stock to fill my order (though I got in at about 2:04PM.

    Edit: I seem to have an order in there at "awaiting payment status".

    Gibbo (OC purchasing manager) said he was only expecting single digit stock on the 3090. Fingers crossed.

    Sounds like I'm probably in the "early October" camp, from the best available info. I can live with that.

    Are Pallit any good then? Always just kind of wrote them off as a cheapo option, but there's nothing cheapo about a 3090! :D

    @dfunked09 My old 980Ti was a Palit and it was fine. I wanted the non-OC Palit version because, quite frankly, they seem to have fucked around with the base design a bit less than some of the others.

    Cool, will take a look. I've had a few Zotacs in the past even though people turn their nose up at them. Absolutely fine cards for me.

    Their comments on the Trinity card's performance has put me off using them again though.

    I think I might just fuck this off as a bad job and get a 2080ti until next year

    If you can get it for a solid price then that's not a bad option - after all, it'll play everything this year very nicely unless you go bananas with the resolution.

    I only play at 1440p so not too bananas. It'll be a solid option I think and a step up from my 980
