    @captbirdseye

    I registered my interest on there as it sounds like they're doing it for the backlog first on the US site. Not sure if the US one is any better, but that site seems like something from 1995!

    @dfunked09 Yeah their Twitter said US rollout starts first and then they'd look at Europe.

    Well, I was impressed. Need to see what the CPU's overclock like, but I see myself dropping my i7 8700k chip, board and RAM for this.

    5800x is too expensive with an overclocked 10700k being almost 100 quid cheaper and offering similar perf. 5900x is ok. getting 5900x. ^_^

    I'll be looking to switch over from my i7 8700k to a 5900x or 5950x I expect.

    Fucking FS2020 making me do it!

    actually it depends on how the 5800x is priced here. 400 quid might happen, at that price it's still about 50 quid more expensive than it needs to be though.

    Glad that I haven't got too heavily into FS2020 by the sound of things... Perfectly happy with my 8086k, but would definitely be considering a full upgrade right now if I wasn't.

    Guess I'll be grabbing one of those to go with a 3080.

    Given the new consoles will have 8 cores 16 threads (I think) - presumably the 5800X is a safe bet going into the next gen?

    Would there be much/any benefit coughing up another ton to get a 5900X? I only really use it for games. Just conscious that my 4 core no hyperthreading i5-6600k is lagging a bit, if I had an i7 I'd probably be able to hold off another year it so.. so would consider going bigger this time if it made any sense. But given new consoles 8 cores, etc.

    New motherboards next time round, I'm more thinking on what CPU I can leave this set up with before starting again in a few years, once the new console generation gets into its stride.

    As much as I want a 5600x I'm tempted to see what happens to the 8 core 3000 series over black friday, its for a x470 board anyway and firmware issues makes it not so simple.

    @KD This is a good point. I'd be interested to see how 5600X compares to a 3700X in terms of price to performance.

    Also got my eye on the as-yet unreleased MSI B550 Torpedo which looks like it'll be a strong budget motherboard capable of overclocking whatever you stick in it. Might make sense to stick a cheap 3000 now and then move to 5000 later when actually required.

    New AMD CPUs seem pricier than I expected. So still unsure on what route I plan to take when I eventually upgrade my heavily bottlenecked 4790K (paired with a 2070 which will do for now on my low res 2560x1080 monitor I imagine). Either way I will need a case (my current one doesn't leave enough space for long graphics card and only just fitted the 'short' 2070 Ventus in there and the 3000 series look too long), mobo, CPU and RAM. I also wonder how necessary 8c16t CPUs will be with that being the new console baseline (will 6c12t be a bad investment...)

    How does this look as a play now, upgrade CPU and 3070 Card next year or so build? I figured the motherboard would be fine, I can push to £1.5k

    It's a tweaked prebuild from Cyberpower, I have many SSDs lying around. I want to play half life Alyx properly and Cyberpunk.

    Not sure about the case and the power supply.

    @magicpanda I'm really not sure I'd be buying a 2060 Super right now. Stock shortages for the 3080 and 3090 aside, the "mainstream" 3060 is tipped to arrive in January and is likely to blow the 2060 Super out of the water at around the same price-point. Plus there may be something in the AMD Big Navi reveal at the end of this month as well aimed at around that price-point.

    @magicpanda The rest looks fine to me. If you already have a 1060 you can use, I definitely wouldn't be buying a 2060 Super right now.

    @magicpanda

    What platform are you intending to play Alyx on? I had a 970 powering a Vive for a while, which is pretyy equivalent to a 1060 and it worked pretty well, but settings needed dialing down. If you're using an Index or something with higher res than the relatively old Vive, then you might struggle a bit I'd have thought.

    Another stopgap: what about picking up a cheapo 10xx series card? Like a 1080 or 1080ti? Not sure how they compare to a 2060 in terms of price, but they are 2 generations old now so a bargain might be had.

    Also, you haven't said what resolution you want to game at? If you're only doing 1080p60, then you'll easily be fine. I'd say you'll also be fine a 2k60 or 1080p100/144.

    I've got a worse setup (aside from 2080) with a 6600K and it runs everything easily at 3440x1440 at 100fps. GPUs are generally where the major gains are unless you are running a Pentium III, or you want every tiny last hair in the world rendered.

    I have a Rift and, to be fair, the 1060 does manage ok but I think the CPU is letting me down.

    I want to hand my current PC down and I want to play cyberpunk so I have a quandary! I'll keep an eye on the sales.
