They seem to love this bad boy. But surely 27 is too small for 4k? I'd hate to have to scale windows and it be bit blurry, can't cope with blur.

Deciding on a monitor is the most painful experience I've been through in ages. :|

Imo if you want 4k it really is worth waiting till later this year for one of the 32Ē ones. Itís the sweet spot.

I do have a 4k 27Ē non gaming monitor and the clarity is amazing on it. But for work I do use scaling as 100% is way too small.

Yeah, there are ones coming with HDMI 2.1 and Freesync and so you could put anything you want through that.

Sounds like you need to ascend to a 5k super ultra widescreen.

    @THFourteen

After driving myself completely nuts over monitors, I think I've decided to wait to see this new 32 4k. If the extra 5 inches means you don't need to scale anything in windows - it could be the one although I dread to see the cost of it.

It feels like none of the current monitors are particularly good at HDR (PG35VQ is the best but these mini LEDs are a lot better).

By the time it comes out either I'll grab that or the PG35VQ will be discounted hopefully.

But I can't torture myself with all this research any more!

Depending on your eyesight you might need 125% but that still gets you loads of desktop space.

well I'm definitely old enough for eyesight to start going any second so it's a concern. I really hate any blurryness from scaling, that's a big issue to me.

Shit, bloody thing doesn't fit in my tower 🤦‍♂️

Now the question is do I buy a new tower and psu and move the motherboard and everything over or just bite the bullet and get a new machine minus video card.

The latter seems like a massive expense for very little gain.

Are you really asking that question? Seems like the way forward is pretty clear. Just get the new case and PSU and see how it goes. You can always continue on to a full rebuild if you wanted to.

Yeah, new case and PSU is the way to go.

I was fortunate enough to get one of the smaller 3080s (EVGA XC3) so can still pick a smaller case whenever I decide to move ahead with that (glad that I dodged the H1 dumpster fire!)

(My 980Ti/6700K machine turns five years old in two weeks time - yes I celebrate it's birthday, fuck all o' y'all - and if I could get a new one without selling a kidney I'd be all over that shizzle)

I got mine around 5 years ago too, that's why I was considering upgrading the whole lot but you're right, tower and PSU it is. After 2 weeks of driving myself nuts over monitors, now I can make myself more crazy with tower and psu research.

There should be some night and day gains to be had whenever you do upgrade! I'll probably get a 5900X whenever they become easy to find (5600 and 5800 stock seems to be levelling out a bit now at least)

Thing about upgrading now is that if you do get lucky enough to snag a new piece of kit at RRP, you can still make a decent bit back on eBay for your old stuff.

Yeah, indeed - tech has made some big leaps these past few years. I'm 80% in on a laptop to replace the desktop anyways, so the gains are gonna be limited, but I do have in the back of my mind to also do as Gregolution's doing and just bung a new GPU and PSU in there and see if I can limp on for another few years.

anyone seen any new cards in the wild? The bots still keep beating me to purchase, even with email reminders set up and everything. My RX580 is starting to show it's age now. :(

    @OldDirty

Email reminders wonít work. Youíll need to join one of the atock alert discord to have any chance. I managed to get a 3080 FE for myself and non FE for my mate last year. This year has been slim pickings looking at it tho.

I upgraded my 4790k last year but tbh your 6700 is fine I would keep it. For gaming you wonít notice any difference.

cheers bro. But will I get any more FPS in Baldurs Gate!? :D

And yes ThFourteen is right, use the stock drops discord, I did the same with his advice and got an FE 30x card myself. Will take a few attempts but eventually you'll get one.

What's the name of the stock drop Discord channel? I could only see US ones last time I tried to find one.

I'm only in the market for the humble 3060Ti actually - effectively double the performance of my 980Ti on Ultra settings, plus RTX/DLSS cherries on top. Might be waiting a while, obvs. :)

right.. I'm started to feel bad posting in here so much. I promise I'll be done soon but this is doing my head in.

Looking at scans website , a lot of the 1000 watt PSUs are on pre order only (like the EVGA SuperNova). If I drop down to 850 watt, I'm beginning to wonder what's the point when I've already got a 750 watt PSU - surely that's not worth upgrading from?

Maybe I can get away with just this bad boy :

@Gregolution I'm running a 3090 off a 750W PSU with no problems. Admittedly, I've no overclock on the GPU, but I do have the 9900K clocked up to 4.7GHz.

Ok cool. Maybe I'll just get a tower then. If I could just decide on that. Time for some browsing while watching the footy.

I'd probably just see how your 750 does if possible: if it's not enough then it'll just turn the system off anyway. The more likely problem would be having enough PCIE power plugs - I assume the 3090 demands three - so check that.

Check out Gamersnexus for case reviews if you haven't; they work on the principle that airflow is more important because if you just make it so the fans need to work less hard you don't need to insulate against the sound.

Don't worry about posting a lot, it's not as if there's a post limit.

With all this talk of people actually getting cards it's kind of got me interested in getting onto a potential 3080Ti but the sensible move would be to wait for the next proper generation. It's only trying to run Nioh 2 at 120fps that's giving me trouble, because of the way it doesn't handle dropped frames.
