Registered 10 years ago@Theshape80 what was your technique? I'm going to have to bite the bullet soon. Have signed up for a couple of discord groups and have had Twitter part alerts on for the past few days.
I've been pleasantly surprised by how regular the alerts are, but the prices themselves have been uniformly scalpy thus far.

Registered 4 years ago@muddyyfunster I’d signed up to a few alerts of discord and stock Informer. I found they worked but were far too slow and about 10 mins behind. Just by pure fluke I think. -

Registered 16 years agoThe scan drops are the best way to get anything but you have to be quick off the Mark. Because they use captcha and change the links every time they are better against bots. Also they drop quite a few cards in one go. And they limit one card per address and ip address. That’s how I got my 3080.
CtrlAltStock discord.
Make sure you are signed into scan every day and setup to pay with PayPal. -

Registered 10 years ago@THFourteen Thanks that's really good info and have added that Discord to my list.
I like Scan, we use them at work a lot. The dream would be to get an FE from them. I'm prepared to pay 10% over RRP but not the 20-40% piss-take pricing that I'm seeing in a lot of places.
Currently have no GPU so would take any 30 series card (except 3090) at a sensible price.

Registered 16 years agoJust to note that don't think Scan have dropped anything for weeks now on the 3080 FE side. -

Registered 16 years agoI did notice that their general preorder queues are pretty low now so maybe they will open those back up again. -

Registered 4 years agoScan did have 3 lots of 3090s today. If you can afford them that is. -

Registered 12 years agoI wish SLI was still a viable thing for games. For Flight Sim 2020 VR I wouldn’t mind a second 3080. -

Registered 18 years agoSo my (11 year old) PC died last night. Was making a bit of a racket, then went kaput. Getting nothing from it at all. Assume it's the PSU and/or Mobo. Anyway of checking without buying a new PSU and starting from there? Not sure it's worth spending a huge amount of time trying to fix given the age.... -

Registered 18 years agoNone nearby who may have a spare PSU! I'll see if I can pick up one on eBay etc for cheap. -

Registered 12 months agoOr try the slightly slimey "buy from Amazon and return it if it ends up not being the issue" trick.
I've got a EVGA B3 550w sitting in the attic that I keep meaning to sell, can sort something out if you don't have any luck. -

I got a spare Corsair CX500M if that's any good. I was going to eBay it, but rather avoid there. -

Thanks, good plan. Have bought a EVGA 500w one from Amazon for £35 which I can ping back if it's not that. It's not powering much so should be fine!

Registered 18 years agoAh, thanks Tomo. As I don't know if it's the PSU, I'll try Amazon first so I can return it. -

Registered 15 years agoIf you just use it for, basically, office stuff you might be as well just buying an-ex office PC off ebay.
There are thousands of old work PCs floating around ebay that you can grab and stuff your old memory, HDD, whatever into

Registered 12 months agoYeah, refurbed SFF/USFF machines are great if it's being used for basic non-gaming stuff. Much less space used up compared to a mid tower too. -

Registered 18 years agoWas thinking about that and probably what I'll do it it's not the PSU. It's now only used for poker, music and office stuff so one of those should be fine. -

Registered 18 years agoYeah, I can see the gfx card is getting power no worries (with both PSUs, really should have checked that before....). There was a slight burning smell so god knows what it was! -

Ta, can't see anything obvious. Given its age, probably not worth doing much more other than strip the parts out.
