Registered 15 years agoIt's out?!? Great! That's my evening sorted then!
(if I can get back home tonight - it's snowing like crazy here...)
BTW: Could someone please give an update how well this runs on a 1st gen iPad?
Nevermind: just found at that minimum OS requirement is iOS6.0
People on the BGEE support forum were not amused (like me)... Hopefully they'll fix this in an update as they did promise it would run on a 1st gen iPad.

really? I could put it down for years and it comes back like second nature, maybe its from playing it so much.
I'd be interested in BG2, but this isn't worth it imo.
The worst thing about these games is if you put it down for a week and pick it back up, you're boned and have to play through the tutorial again to re-learn how to play it. -

Registered 11 years agoYeah loving this on iPad as well. Still got that big fuck off random encounter where you first travel between areas
You have been ambushed by raiders , 10 of them with bows to your 2 characters who have about 4 HP each. Both dead second later.gif)
Had same problem with doors, searching etc. then when you find the sweet to action it, it then flows more smoothly.
Still love the voice acting.
Hope this sells well, then BG2,PST to follow hopefully -

Registered 15 years agoI've went through the tutorial and the prologue on the PC version. I like how there is some default characters but the new tutorial doesnt explain enough for new comers. I have the original on GoG but wanted to give this one a try. The new cut scenes are nice and the few ui tweaks work well. Ah well time to lose more of my life to this game

Registered 18 years agoIt's bollocks on iPad Mini, sadly. Far too frustrating to play for any length of time, although I'm sure the extra space on the full fat iPads would help.
If you're gonna port it, port it. Put whacking great buttons over the top of where you _know_ the location transitions are, you fucking clunges. Don't just get it technically working, tweak a few things, then go home saying it's a job well done. It's not.
I applaud the intent, and I'm happy to see BG running on modern hardware, but as an owner of the originals it's a shame that I've just spent six quid on half a job. The fact it wants me to stump up more money as in-app purchases for additional shit, after I've just paid a premium price, is an added insult. Not that six quid is a lot in the scheme of things, but it's a lot for something I've deleted after two frustrating hours.
Much as I dearly, dearly love this series I'm turning my back on the iPad version. Too much cynical cashing in on a known fanbase that were gonna take a punt, but not enough love in the actual port for my liking.
I did, however, shed a tear of melancholy nostalgia when "you must gather your party before venturing forth" emitted from my iPad's speakers.

Registered 18 years agoOh, some other basic things they could've done to improve the experience:
One finger to interact, two fingers to drag a selection region. Having to 'click' a function button when there's multitouch is lazy. This could easily be patched in.
When touching and holding in the inventory, it might be nice to have some indication on when I can release to see information. This could easily be patched in.
When dragging things, it might be nice if my fucking finger wasn't occluding the whole object. Scale the object up during the drag, or duplicate it above the finger, or something. Just so I know I've got what I was going for. This could easily be patched in.
Inertia on the scrolling. Since they've gone to the trouble of allowing us to pan the scene with our fingers, adding some deceleration when releasing fingers would be really really nice and make this feel less cludgy. This could easily be patched in.
None of the above is groundbreaking, and in themselves none of them had me cursing the developers, but it's an illustration of what a motivated, capable team of mobile developers would do given this task. I suspect none of them were mobile specialists, this has all the hallmarks of a PC team doing just enough to get their product working on mobile.
A real missed opportunity.
Very glad the rest of you have been able to look beyond all that though, I was really looking forward to some BG on the move so I envy you all. -

Registered 14 years agoWell I've been playing it on the iPad and am absolutely loving it. I'm amazed it controls so well, it looks lovely zoomed out and the small amount of new content I've encountered (in the main game- not the tutorial) has been pretty good. Really glad I went for the iPad version, not sure I'd be bothered with it on the PC having already played it on PC twice before.
However it is quite glitchy. Often when trying to drag a box around multiple characters to group them the green box just freezes on the screen and doesn't select anyone, I've had one crash, one possibly corrupted save (use multiple slots and save a lot people! Even without the bugs this is an old school RPG where auto saves were rare and you die a lot).
It's also sometimes a right pain trying to go through doors, as the bit you have to click on to transition is tiny and not made clear. Also I suspect this was the same in the original game but half the buildings in the first town (and probably elsewhere) don't have visible doors, even when you press the item highlight button, so you just have to tap on the building vaguely where you think a door might be and hope you go inside. Tis annoying.
Still, easily the best RPG on iPad. -

Registered 18 years agoIt's definitely at the limit on my iPad 2 and my sausage fingers,I don't think I could deal with even the slightest reduction in size.
Hopefully an update will solve some of the issues above.
Now time to play some more! -

Registered 11 years agoLoving it on the iPad even with the above mentioned glitches
Had a couple of random crashes to the home screen
Also don't use the entanglement spell, massive amounts of slow down. Simple fight went on for ages and I'm using the latest IPad
Doorways I'm fine going through, there was one exit area where the point you have to click to exit wasn't even near the edge.
Go for the eyes Boo.gif)

The new characters, you have to buy them separately. But then the game itself costs less than half of what the PC version costs, so that's fine by me - especially as I have no interest in the new characters anyhow.
