Most Nintendo fans are already pretty keen on mini wiis.

You know what? If it's the right price I could see someone like me, who's never owned a Wii, being tempted by this.

But then, no, because I could pick up a second hand Wii for sub-60 and I can't see it selling for less than 90.

Looks nice but surely everyone has played the hyped games and doesn't give a shit about the Wii now. You only get one controller. Just seems a bit pointless and throwing more money than you should at Nintendo. Doubt they would put BC back in it. Worthless I think.

Given the Wii sold 300k units just recently this makes sense. Keep Wii at a lower relevant price point for those who haven't bought on yet, and that should help being more people across to Wii U later.

If you owned a GameCube then the odds are you will already own a Wii. So BC is pointless unless hey expect existing Wii owners to but a new one... Which with BC in the WiiU is vastly unlikely

I'm really struggling to see the point of this other than to confuse the shit out of buyers this Christmas.

@Psychotext only the same point as every other shrunken hardware release ever made...

So if a mom comes up and asks for "the new Wii" for her son, what is she going to end up with?

None of them came out 1-3 weeks after a brand new console.

The PSTwo came out over two years before PS3.

@Psychotext If a kid knows enough to want the new Wii U, that's what they'll ask for. If mum did get it wrong they'll just swap it on boxing day. Having worked on boxing day or when stock is there.

There's 200 difference between models and they're just going to swap it?

@Zomoniac yeah hence post deleted. But it's still a minor issue for me. The wii mini is still distinctively different from WiiU.

@Psychotext well that is unlikely to happen at all. If the price gap is an issue then they were never going to get it in the first place.

Kids aren't stupid, if their parents don't know they'll be sure to tell them exactly what to get.

Parent goes into GAME and asks for "the new Wii".

This is what they will now leave with. Nintendo = Evil genius.

Depends on the kid. I gave my Mum written instructions and even explained the lies Electronics Boutique would probably tell her. (Naturally they tried to sell her the more expensive Saturn version of a game when I only had a Megadrive, despite the written directions and prices).

Did you have to push the instructions out under the attic door?

No the loft did not have stairs leading to it. You had to get the step ladder from the garage.
