Im on the last set of levels and they are brutally murdering me, im not great at platformers anyway but damn they are tricky
  • Deleted user 25 July 2013 13:12:03
Tricky isn't the word. Pixel perfect springs to mind.

Can mario do a little mid air boost in this while jumping? I could have sworn I seen that in a video but I can't find any information on this during my googling.

@Pinky_Floyd Yeah, if you press 'ZL' or 'ZR' on the gamepad or shake when using a wiimote. I'ts not so much of a boost, more of a stop falling as fast for a split second but I imagine that'll really help you if you're finding it difficult.

@MatMan562 Thanks, I'm at peaches castle so may come in handy :)

@Pinky_Floyd If you've made it all that way without it, you should find it a breeze!
  • Deleted user 26 July 2013 13:53:49
@MatMan562 I'm a little embarrassed I didn't know about it to be honest. Don't tell anyone.
  • Deleted user 26 July 2013 13:57:21
Out of interest, was there a level in this that you just thought was the hardest level ever? Forget about collecting coins, I'm talking about just getting to the flag or beating the level and boss.

    Ludwigs Clockwork Castle for me.

But then I do still have to get through Peaches castle and the star road (if I can ever be bothered going for the coins).

3 stared the game haven't started world 9 having a bit of a rest have 16 lives left have got all coins and it has taken me 24 hours so far!!! I know I am not that good but how did someone manage to do it in 6
  • Deleted user 27 July 2013 19:32:47
@Ashleyfiddes They didnt, it was bullshit from someone stirring the pot in the wii u thread.  They also called it awful and those two things combined suggest they have never actually played it.

It might be possible to defeat Bowser in 6 hours if there are secret exits which shortcut two complete worlds but I dont know if that can be done and even if it could, the game isnt finished.

10 and a half hours thereabouts for me to complete all worlds and defeat bowser and thats not even bothering to collect the coins.

I've only just noticed Boost Mode. I assumed it was a touch screen mode but its not is it. Wally.
It's really good, could really do with leader boards though!

@binky what is it pinky?  I mean, binky.

I have all the stars in the first two worlds.  Even the thought of getting the rest makes me sweat from fear.  Especially because the difficulty really ramps up after world 2.

One of the games of the year, no doubt about it.

F**king time limits! I like to explore dagnabbit!
  • Deleted user 17 October 2013 00:05:51
You cant dawdle!  Also, keep your invulnerability stars to help catch nabbit.
  • Deleted user 17 October 2013 03:22:35
@electrolite Agreed. My one slight with this game to be honest.

Is it my imagination or did SMB3 and SMW have much longer time limits? I love to explore too, and I would rather not be rushed through a level.
  • Deleted user 17 October 2013 08:20:04
The only time the time limits annoyed me is when I ran out of time just before bopping the boss for the third time. That would raise a Grrrrrr but other than that, you usually have to dip into each level multiple times to get the stars. Although I have completed this awesome, brilliant and amazing game, I've actually only got all the stars for the first world, still have all those really hard buggers still to get :)

I think they did. I don't remember the time limits being this much of an issue anyway.

I'm trying to get the gold coins as I go through but from reading through this thread it seems I'm possibly being a bit naive. Maybe I'll just try and get through it then come back for the coins.
  • Deleted user 19 October 2013 10:54:51
    Yep, thats the best idea!

Think I've no choice. Can't make my mind up if I'm enjoying it. Seems a bit sadistic. Plus it stops me playing Pikmin 3. I've got Rayman still in the cellophane, might be time to give that a crack
  • Deleted user 19 October 2013 22:14:07
@electrolite Yes, sadistic is exactly how I would describe the level designers :)
  • Deleted user 20 October 2013 03:17:45
My girlfriend and I have saved just before the very final level. We've got every coin, every hidden exit and such. I think I can safely say this has been the strongest Mario platformer since SMW. Although SMB2 remains my favourite, NSMBU is right up there with SMB3 and SMBW.

Think it's going to be one of my least favourite. Just filling a screen with fish while having a dragon chase you isn't good design. It's unusual for a Mario game to frustrate me with what feel like cheap deaths. Maybe coming to it from the brilliant SM3D Land puts it in stark comparison but I'm parking it for a while. A real disappointment.
  • Deleted user 20 October 2013 20:36:24
@electrolite Weird, I don't consider it cheap at all. It's hard, but it always feels like your fault when you lose, and it's always compelling to try again for me - I think OK I'll nail it this time.

It well and truly is the best 2D platformer since SMW, the difficulty progression is perfect too.
  • Deleted user 20 October 2013 21:01:51
I know that level well and its tough but never felt cheap.  In fact, the whole game always felt pretty much skill based.

If that level is causing you this much trouble you will want to kill someone when you see some of the later ones ;)
