Managed to do the Cave of the Dead gank fest earlier without summons. Won't try that again. Trick is to try to get the archer first, back off when the others close in. Drop into the water on the left side of the arena and head up the ramp out if you need space to heal.

Just scraped by as I'd used all my flasks.

@Dr_Mech Yeah, I did that actually. But I wanted more. This crown has the power of ancient Lords right? It has wank stats. No special property or anything. Buuh.

Ah but, I'm being really negative lately, so I'll shut up now, and go after that cunt Darklurker. Every time I have him on the ropes I get ass-raped from behind.

Actually, although nothing major, it does boost all your damage stats by 1 point (dex, str, int, faith) and lower you vit and vigor by 1 point but yeah I was kind of hoping for more.

Quite annoying, I upped my ATN to get 2 slots and bought another Souls Arrow so I was rocking 60 Soul Arrows. I then picked up Great Soul Arrow and tried that. I then thought great, I'll up ATN again to get 3 slots and enjoy 60 SA/15GSA.
However, once I do this I can only have 2 active slots and only 2 of the 3 selected.
    WTF?
    Any ideas?

These mimics really freak me out for some reason. I wasn't bothered by the mimics in DS1, but in this game they are scarier imo.

@Armoured_Bear If you put the same thing into two slots, it only appears as one slot on your HUD. Is that what you mean?

Yeah if you attune 2 of the same 30 use spell it should just give 60 of them rather than 2x30?

Soooo, anyone have an idea on what the hell that tree with googly eyes thing is in the first area of the DLC? I killed it and got 3 Dried Roots which just restores HP.

If you hit it with the whip you find infront of it, it deals no damage and emits a cloud which repairs all of your equipment...its a helpful Tree that doesn't attack you...and you brutally murdered it..you monster!

That's what happened when I had 2 slots and 2xSoul Arrow, 60xSoul Arrow
Now I have 3 slots, 2xSoul Arrow, 1xGreat Soul Arrow and all I can get is 31 Soul Arrow, 15 Great Should Arrow.

Maybe I'm being a muppet, I'll try again this evening.

Upping attunement also ups the number of casts you get with spells, not by much but it does a little.

I was being a spastic, I can now use my 3 slots properly.
    I just killed Dragonrider
    I'm now SL40 (Sorcerer)
    VIG 7
    END 6
    VIT 5
    ATN 16
    STR 12
    DEX 15
    ADP 8
    INT 20
    FTH 4

I'm going to go and get the Fire Longsword and have a play.
I've been reading about getting the Hexer's Hood and Sunset Staff from Felkin the Outcast. and using hexes which sounds fun.

However, I'd have to put the next 16 levels into Faith to do that, sounds like I'd be best sticking with DEX/INT.
    What do you guys think?

Hexing is great. You are just better off using dark infused weapons with low stat requirements since hexing has a beefy stat requirement ( you should level int and dex up together).

The overall stat investment is only 10 more than if you're doing another though isn't it? Soft cap on Int or Faith individually is 50 while Dark has 30/30 so not too much of a tradeoff for the extra power. At this point though your int is waaay higher than your faith so I'd just stick to an int focus.

Dex weapons got a decent buff in the patch too, iirc. Spears at least.

Thanks guys, I decided I really fancied hexing so I did some arse kicking, beat the Cathedral of Blue boss and I've got Faith up to 18 so only 2 more level ups and I'm ready to start hexing. I may regret it but I can respect at some point IIRC.
    Thanks for the advice.

Has anyone had a crack at the DLC in NG+? The Vanilla game had quite a few changes here and there, so I'm wondering if this one does too.

I'm in the DLC in NG++ but don't know if anything has changed as I haven't played it in normal mode.

I'm playing the DLC in NG+, but considering this is my first time through it, I can't tell you what changes there are when comparing it to the vanilla version. Who knows if those changes are there or not?

This is all very well, except that for some reason From decided to include many hexes above the 30/30 breakpoint.

Soft cap of Faith is 50, and there are only three miracles that require more than 50 to use. Of those, only one has any real value, in PvE at least.

Soft cap for Hexes is 30/30, and yet there are seven hexes, nine if you include the DLC, that require more than 30/30. Some require much much more. Affinity for example is a joke. It requires 40/24 investment, costs three slots, and then for some reason it then only performs at 50% efficiency, and you require 60 int for it to perform at maximum efficiency.

Hexing can be great fun, but it's a lot more complex than Faith. You need to be a lot more careful what you put other stats in as a Hexer.

@Furtive_Pygmy The biggest problem is the cunts almost never stagger. Those ghost cunts have an obvious weakness which I won't I spoil for you. But if you just wanna go toe to toe with them, they are pretty easy to take on with melee, it just takes ages for them to go down. Also, if there are two of them at the same time, you're fucked.

I kept mine at 30/30, I think I used spices to get at any spells that couldn't be used otherwise. Not sure how many that'll get you though.

So just maxed out the Puzzle Sword and infused it with Dark.

It's a fun weapon. Doesn't do a huge amount of damage but it looks cool (Fashion Souls) and has a neat moveset.

    Anyone else using it?

Left mine uninfused but was buffing it with Sunlight blade and using Sacred Oath and was hitting for around 500 damage a hit. During the first days of the DLC it confused the fuck out of people who expected either a short sword or a whip moveset from it (depending on which part they saw first) only to be caught out when they did their usual counter tactics (stay at range for a shortsword or get in close for a Whip).

Fun for PvP not sure I'd recommend it for PvE though.

    So,

    I'm now SL58 (Sorcerer)
    VIG 7
    END 6
    VIT 5
    ATN 16
    STR 12
    DEX 15
    ADP 8
    INT 22
    FTH 20

II'm rocking the Hexer's Hood and Sunset Staff, I've gotten to the third bonfire in Huntsmen's Copse but the shieldless idea was a real struggle at times.
I'm thinking that I need to up attunement and Dex but maybe I should improve my defensive side and up VIT or ADP?

Your next steps should probably be to get HP and stamina up to 10, and then faith to 22.

Yeah I worked out a way to melee them easy enough but the problem, as you say, is when there are more than one of them, which is often the case. I came across a small dead end room with three of the fuckers inside and promptly decided against it.
There's a trick to making them super easy if you have a play around.

    Here's a hint for them.

You know the first room with two of them in, look for something to smash in that room while the phantoms are still up, it usually has a glowing aura on it.

This should make them much easier to deal with...
