That damned, elusive 10/10 Page 2

Burnout 3 was amazing. 10 for me, at the time.

Dead Space 2. No way. Ever.

"You're a bit bored of gaming. That is your fault, not the gaming industry."

They should print that at the bottom of every review from now on. Save people reaching for the rose tinted specs every time they burn themselves out on gaming and start dribbling about how it was better before this gen.

I've had DS2 sat under my TV - still sealed - since its release. I loved the first one but just cannot bring myself to start the second.

    I give everyone's opinion 10/10.
  • Deleted user 16 December 2012 13:42:23
@mowgli GTA IV was massively boring. Online multiplayer was a great addition though.
  • Deleted user 16 December 2012 13:44:16
See I, and several (the majority of?) publications thought it was incredible. The way a large section of this forum (not saying you) seem to believe this fact to be a giant conspiracy can get slightly grating.

I know this is your go to response, but it doesn't really work on me. I love games, old and new, and don't dispute for a second that this gen has pumped out some wonders.

I don't simply discard older games though. There are dozens, maybe even hundreds of games from the last generation that are still utterly brilliant, and I find it impossible to believe that only them are worthy of top marks.

It's also pretty grating when your opinion is discounted because of some imagined bias towards older games.

Do you accept credit cards, or just envelopes full of money?

In my opinion this is wrong.

Shit I'm actually agreeing with mowgli, this is greatly disturbing.

In terms of outright gaming fun I've loved every generation but I find it hard to argue against this generation being the best there has ever been.

360 and Pc, Wii, DS, PSP... So so much fun

You're almost certainly right, but to my mind there's also a bit of developers giving the likes of Edge what they've always asked for. Open world sandboxes, non-linear storytelling, emergent gameplay. Wheras what we got in a lot of cases is poorer storytelling, broken difficulty curves and emergent backwards-flying dragons.
  • Deleted user 16 December 2012 14:11:50
@mowgli I think it was all hype to be honest. But everyone loves San Andreas too and I didn't get into that one much either.

Terrible list. Now for my personal (probably equally terrible in every other persons opinion) list:

    The Last Express
    Baldur's Gate 2
    Fallout 2
    Planescape Torment
    Deus Ex
    KotOR
    Mass Effect 2
    SSX 3
    Braid
    Journey
    Half Life 2
    The World Ends With You

I'm sure i'm forgetting a couple of things.

Dead Space 2 is probably one of the only ones there that I would give a ten strangely. It just completely clicked with me, I never replay games but i did that like 3 times in a month and it got better each time.

The original deus ex is one of the easiest ten's ever for me.

Meh, when I was some random age lower than 10 I imagined these mind-blowing games which could possibly exist in the magical future. Fuck me if Skyrim, Borderlands (2) et al have actually beaten what the kid version of me could imagine was possible. In some ways I think we've just become pickier and quicker to put down things for not instantly sating our desires.
  • Deleted user 16 December 2012 15:04:15
    deus ex
    Half life
    half life 2
    Halo
    Halo 3
    Bioshock
    Bayonetta
    Kotor
    Mario 64
    Rome Total War

Think that is it. Could say a hundred or more 9s but a rarely find a game worth a 10.

For me galaxy outdoes mario 64. It's an excellent game but the two galaxy games are just joyous.
  • Deleted user 16 December 2012 15:10:40
Sadly I have not played either Galaxy games. I need to. I will one day get a wii filthy cheap just to play both.

@Pepsipop do. Really do. Everything 64 and sunshine were heading towards is realised. For me galaxy 2 is probably the single best game of all time.

I still put Mario 64 above Galaxy. It still amazes me that they managed to pretty much perfect a genre on the very first try.

Yeah forgot Mazza galaxy - I can see why people would have that as a 10, but I got bored half way through

@disusedgenius for me the technical achievement of 64 and it's place as the first 3D mario makes it feel like a better game overall than it was. Sure it was great, but on sheer entertainment and fun value galaxy 2 has no equal for me.
