WHat about finding a Dell Precision laptop for gaming? They sold with decent graphics for 3d modelling and usually turn up very cheap on ebay Something like this cheap laptop might suit, seems to have a decent processor and plenty of ram. Not sure what graphics chips they run though. Edited by patrickmcc at 15:48:59 01-05-2015 |

Registered 6 years agoWould just like to revive this thread to ask if there's anyone that can help me find a laptop that will run most recent games and won't cost an arm and leg. Any help will be much appreciated. -

Registered 8 years agoAs above. Any informed opinion on whether the laptop in the link is a good buy? Seems pretty cheap for 4th gen i3? And HD4400 isn't so bad I think?
It won't primarily be for games but I'd like to be able to run stuff which is maybe 5 or 6 years old ok.
This is also my absolute max budget as I'm currently jobless. Again, any help appreciated.

Edit: Or is this better

Registered 8 years ago@Concrete Hmm Thanks I'll have a look, tbh I know absolutely nothing about Radeon mobile cards, which doesn't help my searching. -

Registered 15 years agoSo I'm looking to upgrade again but my budget is a little higher.
I'm looking for something around 700-800 pounds that can run GTAV on high settings, ideally I would like to play BattleFront2 and Warhammer Total war when they come out, which graphics card would you recommend? (I know sys req for those games are not out yet).
would a Geforce 860m cut it?
Currently looking at Alienware 13 and Acer Aspire V 15 Nitro, can get custom builds but not from websites as I am in China.
Thanks for any suggestions

@twelveways As someone who has owned one: please, for the love of all that is holy, stay away from Alienware, they're ridiculously overpriced, awful performance wise, and the fans... dear god, the fans... -

Going to have to look at one of these things as I've no longer got space for a desktop. The laptop I have is an old work one and its a bit slow. Memory and disk seem fine, but the CPU is always maxed out. I think upping the memory might help a bit, but I'll have to check the spec. -

Registered 15 years agoThanks guys, some good food for thought there. I don't know if I can get Gigabyte over here unless I get it online (which I don't trust).
Asus are everywhere though. I'm quite interested in the idea of an external graphics booster as well, no idea how or if they work but I like the idea. -

The Graphics card is a GTX 950 but it does seem really pricey -

Registered 6 years agoThanks a lot for the help. Since searching I've found this which is cheaper and as you mentioned has a GTX 960:

Apologies for asking but I'm a complete novice when it comes to laptops. Does this look like better value? -

Registered 6 years agoI'd buy that. Looks about a hundred quid cheaper than my search, and 1tb and 8gb seems to be the standard. I had an MSI which was well built with a decent screen -

Registered 6 years agoThe processor is an Intel i5 rather than an i7. Will that make a huge difference to performance? -

Registered 6 years agoI'm not sure. If they're similar to desktop it won't.but researching it, mobile i5s are dual core. I would guess games will be fine but hopefully someone else will answer -

Registered 6 years ago@hillbilly66 Thanks for the help, much appreciated! It was the cheapest laptop I could find at those specs. Screen is supposed to be great. The only downside is the battery life but cant have everything I guess. Laptop should be coming tomorrow ☺ -

I've got £1200 to buy a new laptop, I want gaming, productivity, decent screen, fast boot, 1080p min resolution.
I appreciate any recommendations?
